That is true but I must admit I chuck one up at our old co (he was also ex reg sqn ldr) not because I have to just because I like the guy and to show some respect I always call him sir aswell
ditto
and i call everyone sir/ma’am unless i know them via either a SNCO rank or other title (Dr) is appropriate
I doubt it as well.
Many years ago a member of the local TA unit, a L/Cpl came along to the sqn, on I imagine an SI basis, and did some soldery stuff with us. However he left and I found out that he had try to apply to be a WO and told he couldn’t, unless he left the TA as it would not, due to the privileges of using the Sgt’s Mess among other things, be comensurate with his TA rank. I can’t imagine this position will have changed in the last 30 years.
In all of this debate there is also the old adage that you can’t serve 2 masters.
ACP20 key changes:
-
ALL ACO CFAVs (Officer, SNCO, & CI) must now be British Citizen/National
-
Serving Reserve Forces ORs (Officers can still go VR(T)) can now go SI ONLY, i.e.
- Serving Reservists ineligible to go CI
- Serving Reservists ineligible to go SNCO(ATC)
-
Big changes to administrative (disciplinary) action for all personnel
…not sure where this leaves CIs and SNCOs who are serving Reservists, or serving CIs and/or SNCOs who are not British Citizens/Nationals!

I know of a couple of VR(T) Officers who have been SACs in the RAuxAF and frankly thats not right [/quote]
Do you mean ex-RAuxAF SACs, then commissioned VR(T), or serving RAuxAF SACs also holding a VR(T) commission?
If the former - that’s OK - if the latter - its not …can’t be an Officer in one branch of the Reserve Air Forces and an Airman in another. Apart from being inappropriate, its in breach of QRs etc.
