There’s loosely a “right” way and a “wrong” way to use powerpoint for a lesson delivered by an instructor.
The right way is to use the slides to present key information and visual aids which in the old days would have been acetate sheets on an OHP. The bulk of the lesson should be delivered by the instructor and powerpoint is merely supporting.
The wrong, but commonly encountered, way is to put lots of text on the slides and the instructor does little more than read from the slide. That almost always results in a poor lesson.
As such there’s been a push towards ridding the ATC of poor lessons and replacing them with aids to instruction. Those aren’t particularly suitable for self learning.
An instructor who wants to teach a new subject needs to receive training in that subject from someone competent.
I’m in a similar position. Having just started an intake a week before we closed we had a few who couldn’t make it and might now be suitable to join the online version.
On the one hand I’d say that whilst the post is still operational they could print and complete a 3822A and pop it in a postbox to be delivered to me at home.
The alternative of electronic submission though might well be actioned by HQAC under the current circumstances given that they are already considering electronic storage of 3822 (i.e. upload it to SMS and destroy the hard copy).
There’s also nothing to stop staff from other units sitting in on sessions delivered by specialists. I’d certainly welcome that in some of the areas I teach if only to see how others do it
We’ve got probably the greatest opportunity for cross-unit/specialist support… It’s whether anyone bothers/manages to organise it and others see the potential to hijack someone else for their cadets or learn for themselves.
