Staff Ranks

Big question is - are you still doing a Flt Lt role?

Are you

  • doing an exec role of Sqn, (IC, adj, training officer)

  • acting as camp com?

  • supporting wing or local teams.

  • are you helping with long term planning & development?

If not & are on the wind down, one night a week bod as “you’ve done your time” then perhaps it’s time to step down or step away.

& if you feel the organisation needs to close & merge with the ACF then perhaps offer to transfer over to them - they need help to.

Regardless it comes across the ATC has lost its magic for you & becoming hollow. All volunteering comes to an end sometime.

Respectfully I would suggest that with yourself it has reached its natural end point & it’s time to step away although of course you are the best judge of your own personal circumstances & if you feel you can continue to add value in a positive way I would urge you to continue.

Well you said it, yes you are an ‘acting’ Flt Lt, but you are actually a ‘substantive’ Fg Off. All that is being done is reverting you, and a number of others, to your substantive rank.

Are you expecting to claim VA at your acting or substantive rank!

What are you doing as @mprentice1 asks, what are you doing to keep your acting role!!

Imagine for a second that something as simple as letting someone keep their rank was wonder out for retention…

Even if it coloured your opinion of them, provided they weren’t a massive chopper, why wouldn’t we exploit such a cheap retention tool, especially when it recognised a level of commitment they’d given to the organisation for x years?

Say, 8 years to retain the rank.

My motivation has never been on the basis of holding a rank… I have run 6x squadrons across two wings and been involved for 32 years, 34 if I include CI
… What are your motivations ?

BTW - I PAY homage, not PLAY at it !!

If you really must know, i am still 2i/c and Adj ,always helping with long term planning & development and still doing 2 nights per week !

Satisfied ??

But holding onto the rank of flt lt shouldn’t require any of that: it’s still a JO rank held simply by doing your time as a fg off and completing the development programme.
