Brilliant. I just need to take a video of me accessing my office etc and showing wall signage and it looks like Iāll have access.
Thank you very much!
Hi, Iām not tech savvy but we were thinking about setting up a squadron website and then i found this thread! Did you make a template? Can we use it? Iām sorry to say Iām a bit lost, but my idea was to really give it to the cadets to populate it, but Iāve no idea where to start!! Any help appreciated!

As this thread has been dug up and weāre discussing websites, Iād like to ask: Are Sqn websites actually worth it? Is it worth the time trying to keep a populated ālatest newsā thing on a website? Are the really needed at all?
I can understand the use of a single page giving basic info, but that is standardised now via the RAF website.
Are we better off sticking to good social media and the likes of Google maps info?
We used to have a Sqn website but it was becoming challenging to keep it up to date. It looked out-dated very quickly so we chose to remove it and guide everyone to the RAFAC website.
Since this change, we are seeinga greater interest from parents for their children to join and then we use local SM to rave about our activities.
In my experience no, a good social media presence achieves the same thing at far less work.
In some cases potential grant givers need to see a website (and some, such as software companies, also need an email address for charitable donations).
It would even be a good idea for the CivCom to maintain a website as the ācharitableā arm of a Squadron.
Personally Iād say yes they are worth it. A sqn website acts as a focal point for information for parents/new recruits and public. I use my sqns website for some basic info for potential recruits/parents, and the Digital joining pack.
Not really, no. Use social media for the regular updates on activities and then the website for that static stuff.
Also if you use Wordpress (or many of the hosting outfitsā website builders) you can use a plug in to add social media feeds to a static site. The main downside is that feed posts can seem a bit out of context. Depends on how well itās all laid out.
I find ours to be a really useful resource for those who want to learn more about us, and we share the articles to social media. This gives a nice thumbnail which can then link them to even more stuff if they can be tempted to do the next click.
Iād say about a third of our recruit requests have come from the main RAFAC site.
Do both!
Do your social media posts on twitter and embed the twitter feed into the website.
Nothing worse (apart from a broken website!) than posts from very long time ago - prompts the question - are they still open for business? who left?
I also wouldnāt bother with Twitter/X tbh.
Depends on what you use it for, we get a lot of engagement on it.
I see it as
Facebook - parents
Instagram - teenagers
Twitter - professionals and businesses
Itās a very simplified view but it works for us
I see it exactly the same, just donāt value engaging with Professionals & Businesses.
LinkedIn for business and professionals.
Twitter is a cess pit
My opinion of squadron websites (as a viewer of others) is that they often look amateurish and have no common style with other squadron websites. They often look so outdated that I donāt even trust the information on them (like parade nights for example) if I do come across them. Nor do they appear high in any search results.
The Wing pays a fortunte for a website which is a virtual replica of the Region siteā¦ It generates no traffic!
