Squadron Identification Badges will be worn on No 3 uniform

Someone could have done this before giving out thousands of the badges and getting everyone to sew them on :joy:

But seems like a solid idea. I like it at least.

Not sure how I feel about the blue…

We’ve already got blue on the rank slide :man_shrugging:

The only thing I don’t like is that these identifiers are still private purchase by units. But it does say that is being reviewed, which is good to hear.

I suppose, a Wg or region identifier would have been nice @OC.1324 :eyes: :eyes:

Still can’t believe they’re private purchace yet necessary

Can’t access SP, but I suppose no change for CCFs?

CCFs will still need to move the badge up to match, but there is a grace period.

CCF. Due to the size of CCF badges and their entitlement to wear their respective school badge on the left arm/blanking plate they will continue to wear only the RAFAC Badge on the right arm. Cadets & CFAV’s are to move the RAFAC Formation Badge to the top of the blanking plate, so the 2 corners meet the top of the blanking plate. This is to ensure consistency and reflect the positioning of the parent service. If wearing barrack shirts or CS95 DPM, the formation badge is to remain in its current position (worn with the top of the badge 7.5cm from shoulder seam).

Transition Period. Movement of the formation badge is to be completed by all personnel by 28th February 2026. Due to the nature of the squadron identification badge being private purchase by local units, local units will have until 31st October 2026 to ensure all cadets are issues a secondary brassard badge and it is correctly sewn onto the blanking plate/right arm.

Seems a little bit of a big ask for quite a pointless exercise!

Edit - for CCF cadets

It was only a matter of time but here’s my one message….

I’ll be transparent because I always am.

  1. It went through the new and reformed DPSG process. The minutes of the meeting are available on the DPSG Hub under the logistics site. Multiple options were considered and this was the simplest solution. Without completing reinventing the wheel. The full DPSG meeting minutes are in review for publication in the next few days. This is how transparent the DPSG will be. Real shift change in culture for the Organisation.

  2. The WWO community has had site of this for weeks and has had the opportunity to feedback on dead lines etc.

  3. Impact to cost and design were discussed etc. As @JoeBloggs indicated SO2 Logs at HQAC is working to remove that cost burden from Sqns, it won’t be immediate but if you dont try you dont get!

  4. Its not a pointless exercise, we are in a world of camps now where there are hundreds if not thousands of cadets all in No 3, we need to differentiate and identify their unit. This vision will only expand, large scale multi activity is the future vision.

  5. Full transparency again, This was an option and discussed. Im sure @OC.1324 will agree that we need to ā€œfixā€ the sea of illegal badges first before allowing them as a uniform item. Once that’s in a more stable place we will discuss again, maybe for the left blanking plate etc

For what it’s worth I actually saw it on Facebook before Sharepoint! :face_with_tongue:

Yeah Jamie asked if he could

Quick Q. What will Wing and Region staff wear? Will there be an expectation to produce wing/region versions of the identification badges?

There isn’t, its ATC cadets only

@AlexCorbin my apologies, let me be clear that I was calling the mandate that CCFs move badges up a pointless exercise, not the introduction of identifier badges, which I think is a very welcome move!

My bad,

It’s for uniformity. And also the RAF one is at the top, arguably we probably should have launched the formation badge with it at the top, but oh well.

This is end ex on this thread for me. Have fun moaning, but looking forward to seeing badges move over the next 6 months

That did cause some confusion but we got it squared away eventually

I don’t think the CCF(RAF) bother wearing them anyway.

Not all RAFAC CFAVs wear them even in the ATC.

This is one of the few things as an SNCO I can control - I have no play over staff ordering uniforms/the RAF fulfilling them, but I always religiously ensure all cadets have the correct identifiers issued and sewed on - it does look very smart seeing the school badge on all cadets!

Did this apply to CFAV?

I can’t find it on SharePoint.

We moved the formation identifier down when we removed the RAF one, now it’s back to the old position

Yes!

As I got my blanking plates from the parent station and they glue the RAF TRF on (or maybe that is how they come from supply, I don’t know) I had to buy new ones to put it in the middle!
