Squadron Identification Badges will be worn on No 3 uniform

Oh, I love an optimist…….

The 30:30 might make 5:5. :smiling_face_with_horns:

By the above invitation, happy to confirm that I have proposed utilising authorised badges on patches to scratch that collective itch for regional / wing identifiers, but it was agreed that we first need to make sure everyone understands what is and isn’t authorised before we open that door. It would need to be tightly controlled and so we first need to continue the good work bringing clarity to this area.

For now, I’m very happy that the “local” element of my proposal (unit ID under TRF, just as the parent service may use badges like “903 EAW” under the RAF TRF) has been accepted and run through a very formal and transparent process.

Without blowing his trumpet too much, @AlexCorbin has done a fab job here and it’s a privilege to be a part of it.

The pointless part was putting these in the wrong place to begin with, but we are where we are.

With my own kids we sewed them on in the same place as my RAF one.

Can I just say that I trialled the Sqn number tab on the Green wolly pulley in about 1991?

It looked the absolute dogs danglies.

50 points to moi, I think…

Good thing they’re not going on green jumpers then!

I think if you start putting unit identifier badges on green jumpers and wearing them, you’ll be back to Alex baiting season :joy:

He’s probably silenced this thread, we can plot in secret…

Oh did I just miss it? When does it start again so I can wear my desert boots and DPM trouser combo?

When we’re on BST, that way you can roll one sleeve of an MTP shirt up at the same time

This place is becoming more and more like ARRSE every day!

can we add ARRSE to the profanity filter, everytime I login my brain numbs slightly

True, but there’s some really good stuff there too, it just needs digging around. Some of the threads on AJAX are right on the nail. And the Ukraine thread is required reading, even if just to keep up with aviation aspects of the conflict that are rarely reported.

Level Peaks Multicam smock, Tropical DPM trousers, and Aku trainers.

Maybe blue sqn identifiers with velcro backing…

And sidies, obvs.

Normal RAF rank slides with RAFAC pins?

What are we actually achieving from this other than adding a cost burden onto already strapped budgets? There’s so much we can’t do because of cost but it seems we can magic money out of nowhere for this currently from Sqn funds and then maybe from HQAC eventually :man_shrugging:.

The only people, literally the only people who benefit from this are the suppliers of the badges who will have more than triple the income from these badges.

What exactly is the motivation behind it?

Giving some unit identity to cadets (and CFAV I guess) whilst in No 3s. It’s something people have wanted for a long time. Shown by the number of unofficial TRFs always coming out the woodwork.

As Alex and JoeBloggs have said, these will be provided by HQ not to long from now, who can buy at a much cheaper PPU than any individual unit can, and It’s a way of identifying who’s who in greens, if it was really about squezing us for every penny it would be a green badge to diminish any actual ppu benefits and making us actually pay double.

With the RAF push towards making sure cadets are properly identified (new TRF, new Ranks, colour distinguishing between O18 and U18) this is probably going to come from HQ public funds rather than unit non-public
