In essence, the squadron was attacked last night by 'ooliguns who burnt out the Squadron Minibus and the Caretaker’s car/van (Our building is the ACF Company HQ, so is permanently manned.)
So now we have to find some funds to replace the bus, in a much shorter time frame than we had anticipated. Any ideas how we can use the ashes of one bus to feed a campaign for a new one.
(I appreciate this sounds a little like asking how to go about begging, but we figure we may as well use the fact of the attack to our advantage.)
Get it in the papers. Pictures of tearful cadets around the ashes… stories of them missing out on stuff etc.
Perhaps follow this up by having them road march to some destination as the alternative form of transport. The plucky youth not giving up approach.
Also Begging letters to local businesses, particularly those directly able to help (eg Garages that sell / provide minibuses etc), council or charities that support youth work etc. - “You may have seen in the press, can you help?” type stuff.
indeed, you’d think that if HQAC’s MCO wanted to be useful he could either have turned up with a fire extinguisher or started ringing the national rags this morning.
Hmm. I’m pretty easily identifiable on here… so I’ll just say that the MCO isn’t the one having to raise the funds. I’m with Baldrick - of course you should go through the MCO, but a leak is a regrettable incident outside your control.
dunno, i’d ask whether HQAC’s MCO is going to be focusing his efforts on getting you the cash for a new minibus or peddling whatever happens to be HQAC’s line…
the problem is that if you engage with HQAC on this you’re kind of stuck with them - saying, after 2 weeks of ineffective media, ‘look, sorry, you’re not getting me a result, just clear off and we’ll do it ourselves’ is going to be difficult - whereas if you just splash it over the local rags and beg for some help you’ll only have to say ‘sorry, in the heat of the moment i forgot you existed…’.
given that as soon as you get a new minibus HQAC won’t be seen for dust when it needs 4 new tyres and a fuel pump, i’d consider them pretty irrelevent - Sqn’s are perfectly capable of doing their own fundraising and media work, they do, after all, have to self fund pretty much everything…
Our minibus was vandalised a few years ago. It took months for the RFCA to recognise the need for some “additional security” - it was approved on the caveat that they don’t have to fund it, install it or maintain it - however, if we do go through with it, we must get the contractor approved by them, the plans approved by them, the installation done when they are there and then they have to sign it off. In all it took 24 months to get the CCTV up and running - and a lot of work by a lot of people all done outside of hours!!!
It’s something that’s achievable - but very time consuming.
This is utterly disgusting.
Screw the Chain of Command. Its all “dont upset anyone” blah blah blah. Political Correctness.
Get on local news, local papers, social media. post loads of pictures. kick off. appeal for witnesses. Make a big song and.dance about it.
Might be worth investing in a camera/deterrant For future.
Absolutly appalling.
The building issues are compounded by the fact that we are seen as the tenant in the company HQ (So we seemingly have been putting requests to them, then up the ACF CoC.) I’ve had enough of this, I think we should start kicking up a fuss through our own Chain and see if we can’t get anymore help.

Now that is appalling too!
Buy one and fit it yourself for the time being?
or just buy one and have it as a dummy/deterant? until one gets fitted?
Maybe approach a local company for a discount and offer free advertising?
kick up a fuss man, they probably couldnt give a toss unless it happened to them.
The story was released today by the press, helped somewhat by the group who did it claiming responsibility. It now appears that it was Anarchists protesting at the NATO Conference.
The response we as a unit have had has been absolutely phenomenal. We are truly humbled and in response to requests are trying to get a charity donation page up and running. (The story broke a bit before we could get it going.)
actually, being a bit serious, i’d suggest that the MOD should cough up for one: after all, they will have coughed up for the two vans and a minibus that the same nutter - Informal Anarchist Federation - destroyed at the RMR base in Clifton in February…
being more serious, this chod has been around a while, he did the signals gear at Parkway which closed the railways for most of the day, he did the RMR, now Speedwell - he’s got a long history.
the filth raided IndyMedia (far left/anarchist website) in Bristol to see if they could get information from the servers - our friend has a history of sending his claims of responsibility to them, and is probably part of that scene.
