i have to agree with angus in that the MOD should pay.
i believe there is a clause in most] insurance policies indicating damaged caused during “acts of wars, terrorism and riots and natural disasters” are not covered.
as this has been identified as an act of terrorism then the insurance are within their rights to highlight the small print (if it exists in the case) and not payout.
ok so i understand if the insurance company did payout it would only be a small amount in comparison to what would be required for a replacement bus, but that still leave 1860 further of out of pocket…
i liked the cadet on the right who actually looked like he was in mourning. well done that lad - have a gold star…
best of luck to 1860 - i went on Germany camp with one of your lads about a million years ago, and they were always good fun in the anti-2152 Reich guerilla warfare that dominated B&G wing. if you don’t screw the money out of the MOD - or the spectacularly effective A&S Police - i’ll dip my hand in someones pocket.
What was the point in paying for damned insurance if they arent going to pay anything out?
I would be demanding all my previous repayments back. Whats the damn point!
My aunt used to work for an insurance company and her job was finding out how to avoid paying claims.
The other problem with insurance is the excess. A local sqn had a break-in and what was nicked/damaged was less than the excess.
Anyone who’s had their car nicked and or crashed, the insurance companies are only too quick to find a way of not giving you what it’s worth and then ramping up the premium.
We are trying. The number we had for exception was not the right number. We have asked wing for the right one. We also need a letter from HMRC showing we are exempt before they can let us crack on. It’s very frustrating.
Get on to the insurance company. What was the point in even paying premiums if they knew they werent going to pay out.
Absolute load of crap. What is the bloody point!
We’d only get the market value at best for that bus. And you wouldn’t want another one like it…
All at 1860 Sqn are touched by how far reaching our story has become.
We have recently received confirmation that the Avon and Somerset Police are kindly donating a vehicle which has come to the end of its service life.
We do not yet know the condition or suitability of the vehicle, so have started an appeal to raise funds for a replacement minibus or to alter the donated vehicle.
We hope to have a Just Giving webpage live in the next few days.
If you would like to contribute to this appeal by cheque, please send a cheque made payable to 1860 East Bristol ATC Welfare Fund.
Please send the cheque to our Wing HQ at the following address:

Once again, many thanks for your support.

I was wondering how you knew. We were told to let Si deal with press until the announcement at unit. It arrived tonight from the Police (sadly no blue lights) but they’re taking it back to remove the cage and fit more seats then it’s ours. (I suggested leaving the cage in the back, with my cadets it may come in useful.) We’re absolutely flabbergasted by the response we’ve had nationwide. It’s been more than we could possibly have imagined, and a real restorer of faith to humanity. (Well, except for the lovely people who burnt out my own car last week, I live in a lively part of Bristol…)
