Space badge now live on Cadet Portal

Space badge is now on cadet portel

Yes but not on ACP1358 yet afaik

Theres a briefing not on sharepoint on who can wear it and where it goes.

Not everyone can currently wear it regardless if youve been awarded it

Please tell me it goes on the chest and doubles as a radio?

And if not, WHY NOT?

Only if you have passed the blue Radio badge.

Intergalactic comms doesn’t get covered until Silver

Why are some things made to be so difficult?

It’s essentially just a transformational stage. If you have a badge there already, leave it. If you don’t, and get a space badge, then fill it in. Or at least that’s my understanding. This transition started at the end of last year, though, so you’d think things might have moved on a bit.

One thing I’ll add that’s relevant to this, is this email received recently:

It has been well known that since the introduction of PTS, the placing of badges on brassards became an issue. There where a few reasons for this, including the size of the brassard.

The new brassard badge positioning pictures have caused some issues as well, where, if followed accurately, some of the badges will overlap or be visually well out of position.

Personally the idea of dimensioning some badges from a curved surface in the manner it has been done is madness anyway.

It would appear, after some email discussion with Author of the document [name removed] that the brassard he used to come up with the dimensions is again just one of the sizes of brassard available for issue. The badges do all fit on his example, which was used to generate the document. However there was no allowance made for other brassard ‘sizes’ or new-old-stock brassards in his published diagram.

I have spoken to WO RAFAC and the solution for now is:

  1. The brassard badge placements should resemble the badge positions shown in literature as ‘reasonably’ as possible.
  2. You may ignore dimensions that result in badges overlapping or position the badge visibly ‘out of position’ to an adjacent badge.
  3. Where badges share a common feature, such as an alignment or an aligned edge or symmetry to another badge, this should be used to position the badge rather than an impractical dimension.
  4. For the purposes of competitions, no badge positions will be measured. They will still be judged for their appearance, general acceptability of alignment, attachment quality and serviceability.

Its pragmatic I think to say, that if any future badge positioning protocol fails first-contact with reality, then this approach may be utilised without the need to consult. However, obviously please flag for follow up.

Honestly, nice to see a decent pragmatic decision on what is a fairly simple matter. Normally these things just get blown out into a multi-year policy change. Nah, this is good. Basically, keep it neat and don’t worry so much about measurements. If it’s tidy, it’s good. Nice to see the WO Cadre making sensible decisions

I don’t think any of the problems with sensible decision making were ever with the WO cadre.

This is how it always should’ve been. I don’t believe for a second that anyone is measuring badge placement during inspections, even for competitions.

As a cadet we absolutely had staff measuring gaps and spacing on JNCO/SNCO courses and drill comps! But there were less badges then…

Ha, I can think of at least one throbber in the WO Cadre :rofl::rofl:

I am here you know.

I like.to try and atleast be pragmatic

I hear a 6" rule fits neatly in a Jersey arm pocket!

please tell me you don’t actually

we’ve got like 3 different sizes of brassard, and none of them are symetrical, so even the nittiest of pickers couldn’t get it perfect with a full brassard,
unless of course the brassard contract is higher quality down sowf…

The unit identifier being 6mm from the top doesn’t change, though, no matter how bad the brassards are. At least it shouldn’t…
