I really didn’t get that. We’ve moved to a system that has been working well for a long time. It’s not like you’ve magically come up with a bunch of new lessons. Quite the opposite really.
Attendee I spoke to said it was mostly a positive experience for those there.
I’m not aware there’s any change to lesson content - only expansion and development of the delivery of the manual. Seems odd to question that.
Which lesson is “unsafe”?
No idea, some meme someone has generated that we don’t understand.
If we want to do a blue course over many parade nights, how do we go about getting ration packs for the feeding in the field lesson?
Officially you can’t
So it is beg steal borrow - keep anything left over from a deployed ex.
But you now only need to demonstrate cooking, they don’t have to have a meal each.
The ORH and dragon fuel is widely available.
Can you not demand it through your parent station?
I thought it was charged at the daily messing rate?
Was going to say we can order from parent stations pay per ration pack
To demand at DMR you usually need to identify a need, some stations ask you to produce an AO.
You can however contact them and likely buy some at cost.
Well give this a go.
I appreciate you only need to demonstrate, not all do, but we’d rather do it properly!
That’s fair enough.
Keep in mind that if you’re not relying on them for feeding, you can get 2 and a bit meals out of one 24 hour pack (I say ‘and a bit’ because some of the breakfasts and desserts work better than others for practising meal prep).
We were thinking of trying to get 1 ORP per 3 cadets. So they all ‘get a go’, but we don’t over do it. I’m not the FTI, but he agreed that would be best.
Drop me a message sometime, as have the details for Odi.
The new PTS syllabus for fieldcraft is almost a year old and ACP16 was issued with a 12-month trial period, so presumably is due for review very soon. I’ve delivered Blue training and consolidation, which has all been good so far, and will be getting involved in Bronze. There’s a huge interest and excitement from cadets to take part, which is encouraging to see.
How have people found delivering the new syllabus? Is the split between the levels sensible? Are you delivering Blue on Sqn, Bronze at Sector level and Silver at Wing level? Are more cadets getting the chance to take part in fieldcraft now that we have a clear PTS?
I’m currently sat in a room with the team looking at the review. The review items are going to the mil skills scrum that is coming up so it is happening.
Perfect timing How was the review conducted? Did you get lots of feedback from instructors?
Are you able to say how many blue, bronze & silver have been obtained in the last 12 months?
We’ve had two wing level blue camp & I think a bronze but otherwise not a lot locally for fieldcraft
Not on my Squadron. If anything, there has been much, much less.
Despite having 3 experienced fieldcraft instructors in the unit, there has been no acceptance of prior learning, and they have been told to complete yet another training weekend before they can qualify as ‘restricted’ instructors.
The net result is that we now have no fieldcraft instructors, and no fieldcraft training has taken place for some time.
That seems very wrong. I do know many instructors who weren’t converted to FTI, some had organised exercises, some had delivered lessons with weapons, very few had done both. End result, almost no FTIs.
