My inner (and outer) geek is very disappointed.
I’m not personally interested in either of these things, but would be a shame to see them go as I know they are very much enjoyed by others!
PTS is coming, badges are almost a definite no.
Sqns can still do it. Just won’t be a competition thing
You mean staff making them and entering them. Under cadets Bloggs name
you cynic!
Did he mention any rough timescales? 10 months or 10 years?
Someone has said to me before Sept launch… But thats just grapevine
Sounds about right, they can announce it with zero notice just as everyone is all set up to deliver the old syllabus.
It’s highly unlikely we’ll see a fieldcraft PTS this side of Christmas. There may be other changes / tweaks to policy sooner, however. Change management, including more than only implementation timescales, will be given proper consideration (though that’s not a promise of it being perfect!).
That’s a shame, only things I ever medalled in.
Mine too, there is a lot to be said for the patience and dedication in making a good model. Plus modelling and Air rec go hand in hand. I have always found the best way to learn how to identify an aircraft is by making a model of it.
Dumbing down or just getting rid of boring subjects?
Appealing to the lowest common denominator.
I personally find fieldcraft exceptionally dull, but I’d never say stop it.
I get that they don’t have the widest appeal, but there are geeks out there. What do they do now? Where’s their competition and chance to shine…?
Reviving a thread from the dead…
The news has just hit Socials that there is a new Syllabus coming. It was approved by the command board a couple of weeks back.
What are you all hoping to see?
I’d love to see a simple policy for approving instructors, both staff and cadets, to teach basic fieldcraft lessons on most Sqns. Just for the early lessons, but that would open up fieldcraft to so many more cadets.
That it follows the ACF syllabus.
Anything else will be unsafe.
Policy by social media, again. When will they learn
The policy hasn’t been released by social media…
We do a very small amount of the ACF syllabus so can’t follow it. The reference document is a tri-service document owned by the army though for the safe practice.
