I agree that there’s no reason why many CIs wouldn’t be capable of doing Wg roles, although I don’t personally think having a CI in the role would be the best option (that’s another thread!!).
For uniform staff, as I said earlier, I think rank should be related to capability and responsibility. So if a Sgt has the ability to be WATTO and takes on the responsibility, they should be promoted to at least FS. For officers, at least Fg Off, preferably Flt Lt in my opinion.
I disagree, they should be promoted with their own branch to a suitable rank. If they are a Sergeant by all means bump them to Flight Sergeant, but you can’t just Commission them on the basis of holding a Wing post. They would need to apply and go through the process like everyone else.
I suppose the Promotion Matrix thing is aimed at the ordinary man off the street. I’m guessing that ex-forces SNCOs and officers retain their proper RAF ranks? If so, there should be a fast track for those with specialist civvy jobs. 9-21 years is a long wait for promotion in a youth organisation.
Not 100% on SNCOs but officers don’t keep their RAF rank when on RAFAC duty. They may be able to skip OASC and go straight in as Flying Officer rather than Pilot Officer but that’s it unless going straight into an established role at a higher rank.
Nope, if they’ve retired from the regulars then they’ve retired. Joining us as a CFAV isn’t signing up again! If they are an ex officer I think there may be some fast tracking (but only to FO?) but who knows if that is still a thing (or ever was) with CFC.
The cadets just see staff as staff… they see an adult NCO and expect them to be good at nco things, and they see officers and know they have to salute.
It doesn’t matter how many stripes, crowns or blue rings staff have - they have to do the same thing anyway.
Then amongst the adults, it doesn’t really mean a lot.
It’s just part of being more militaristic. And there are lots of examples of muddled up rank weirdness; what matters is who is doing what role.
So I guess this is a roundabout way of saying I agree with the thing that is important is who does what role, not their rank… and often this misaligns.
