Where I am force legal haven’t signed off on that, they are of the opinion that it’s not what is intended by that section. (If it was supposed to be a power of entry it would be specific).
It would certainly be dodgy ground if someone wanted to test it in court.
Currently considering in my head if I should suspend all F2F until 31 March.
Would give some clarity (ish) hopefully removes pressure to instantly deliver once allowed that would likely result in poorly planned activity.
If I was in your command chain, I’d back you on that.
After tonight’s announcement, we’ll be virtual throughout Feb. Hopefully restart F2F in March, but, until then, it’s back to a virtual parade each week.
I don’t think there is any point worrying about F2F until such time as it’s a positive go for it, there have been too many false starts since September. No silly HQAC box ticking nonsense, no NYA says this or that etc, just wait and then go. The pre cursor should be schools operating normally, ie like they had been until last March. Then we and similar orgs know we can operate with no worries about distancing etc etc.
I must admit I want a certificate for having a jab, it can go with my Primary School 100% Attendance ones that I found in mum and dad’s loft last Christmas (2019).
For those in England - and realistically this drives HQAC policy - the Feb half term date (about the 17th Feb) is going to be the time the UK govt starts to look at what restrictions is can think about lifting in the weeks after that. Gove (who is driving this) is very clearly signalling to the political editors that this is not going to be a 7 week lockdown, but a 3 month one with (possibly) some tweaks during its operation.
You should not expect to see ‘normal’ schooling until Easter at least, so would safely suggest that any kind of F2F with the most infections cohort of society can be put in the long grass until then.
My personal view is that some form outdoor activities will be viable from Easter onwards, but that indoor is unlikely to be a runner before September.
That moment when you realise that all that annual refresher training you completed in 2020 will need redoing by the time we’re back to F2F in 2021… and you still haven’t seen any cadets in the meantime…
Erm 18 month shut down… and you expect how many cadets to return exactly?
10% perhaps…?
Have you still not accepted it yet that all units are going to need to recruit significantly?
I take the view that if we get to September with 50% of our staff still turning up for stuff we’ll be doing well - this means in I think we’ll be unlikely to retain 50% of our staff.
Obviously. But thanks…
For CFAV and cadets alike I’d imagine. There will be whole years who will miss out on Cadets and the cadet experience which is a shame.
I personally would like to do more, but prepping and delivering for VPNs is draining and soul destroying when you get less than 10 Cadets. Yes, that is still 10 cadets that you are helping but it’s tough. Also sometimes tough to ensure you have at least 2 adults on the call.
I would like to see some sort of national lessons, where CFAVs who have a real passion for a particular area create perhaps a pre recorded lesson or run a couple of live sessions for the Corps. This could be on a syllabus area or just a general interest, like it could be about your slightly related career or hobbies, something to enrich.
I know there was talk of doing this in our region but nothing happened. We are all in effect trying to do the same thing so supporting each other makes sense. Although there is an argument that if things were done nationally, CFAVs wouldn’t have much to do.
This. Over and over and over again. Share the load instead of 1000 squadrons trying to do exactly the same thing… Badly.
Even at a Wing level it would be useful. Classification training at least. I have heard of Wings sharing training sessions, each squadron taking it in turns. Frankly I feel really let down by my Wing and Region.
We have literally zero interest now, so I echo your sentiment.
I would love to see this. It is just as difficult, if not more in some ways, to run VPNs from home than it is to actually plan activities on squadron. I’d even contribute to national VPNs and I’m sure many if not most of us would too.
For me it just makes sense. Particularly for lessons where the staff don’t really know the topic or care much for it. A topic you have no interest in, borderline knowledge in and hate teaching will be someone else’s favourite and the difference when you have a really enthusiastic knowledgeable teacher makes a big difference.
Like I said however, there is a concern that this could make those not involved feel left out/unwanted etc which is very much not the case.
