Preparing to Return to F2F Activity... Again/Still

The key to all this seems to be that whatever absolute toss is in the guidance can be roundly ignored provided that your RC signs off on your alternative RA.

The frustrating part is that without valid guidance or established precedent there’s no way to guess what each RC will or will not approve.
But I think if it was me I’d just take that line out of my RA and see what happens.

Written as mandatory.
But I agree with WDI.

Give it a whirl…
If the RC sends it back and says “Nope. It must contain a ban on parents entering the building” then at least you’re no worse off bar a (hopefully short) delay.

Just checked. It’s a generic RA for customisation local to your unit circumstances.

So you can quite sensibly remove that control as it’s not practicable. Maybe replace it with something more reasonable like ‘instances of parents / carers entering the unit should be minimised, and where necessary, attendance recorded and suitable social distancing, hand washing and face covering mitigations applied’

Just be sensible with it. If for what ever reason you need a parent to attend ask that they come in 10 minuets before the parade night, or come down once most of the cadets have left at the end!

Sounds good.
Ok will try that with submission to gp Capt.

I think the challenge is a new intake night where said parents may be around the majority of the evening

Just tell them they can’t be. Cos the Rona.

Ah, I’m with you! That is a whole different issue yes! I was just thinking more the times when parents have to pop in to sign stuff, or have a quick chat about an issue that little bloggs might be having.
Not sure how I’d go about running a normal intake night. Time to take a note out of the estate agents book maybe and produce some nice tour videos etc!

I’m not always a fan of my bosses approach…

Deny, and if questioned further; deny again…

He made a full career in the raf and nothing ever seems to stick. So I guess some people just get away with it!

Looks like we wont be opening til mid 2028 at this rate

If we were in a position to have new recruits, surely Facetime or something along those lines would work to give a tour to the parents and show that you are working to the covid rules etc?

In the good old days of 9 months ago or so, parents would turn up with child, fill forms out and then give them a little show around of the building before the child goes to mingle with other cadets and the parent goes for the boring chat with the OC.

Sounds like we’re in the same boat… feels like painfully slow progress. We’ll be lucky to be open this side of Christmas.

99% certain that we won’t be open for cadets until 2021.

Got the RC nod on Friday so hopefully starting back in a couple of weeks. I’m not going to have a new intake until next year so hopefully the 20 plus names on my list will still be up for joining us next year. We normally do a separate open eve, so thinking a pipe might cover the parent thing.

We have a  But we also need a :-1: for posts like that @MRAR

20 @JoT!? I have 1.

It’s going to be a long road to recovery.

@anon9987823, does make it tricky for an open evening then! Hope you’ll have a few more soon.

Now there’s a blast from the past!

Mainly given the local restrictions and the far more cautious approach that has been taken in Wales more generally.

I think one squadron in my Wing has escaped local lockdown and has done some prep for cadets returning but there are now rumblings of a three week ‘fire break’ lockdown here from next Friday so I’m not confident they’ll have anyone in before December. They’re the squadron who have made the most progress so far so I’m speculating that my unit won’t be back to F2F until at least January if not later.
