Preparing to Return to F2F Activity... Again/Still

There should be no reason for stopping unless there is a full school closure, on the basis that if cadets can’t go to school they can’t do anything else.

I do not have any appetite for going back to virtual parades, it was soul destroying last time as enthusiasm waned.

Personally i wouldnt object to an extended xmas break until end of the month, just to see how omicron plays out but thats mostly due to my personal circumstances.

Think its a given new restrictions will be announced next week so wait and see what that brings

As long as we’re not pressured to run VPNs. I’m happy to make materials available to Cadets working on their classification and have drop in sessions. But making everyone ‘parade’ in Teams again would be counter productive at this stage.

Why?

The rate of infections is dropping now.

It seems that way. Unless there is a spike from NYE the impact of Christmas should be apparent by now and hospitalisations from the increase in cases in December is baked in now. SAGE has said any new measures won’t make much difference at this point.

That could all change if we see a large increase in older people being admitted to hospital of course.

I would imagine the PCR shortage is having an impact on that

Exactly this. Its not the infection that woul cause any restrictions. Its the NHS inability to deal with the demand and protecting that

Which at the moment at least is a known unknown

No chance, any real attempt at greater restrictions runs a very real risk of Boris facing a leadership challenge.

Yep.

“protect yourself, protect your mates, don’t be your own worst enemy” isn’t just a thing for climatic injuries. It works for politics too. Bringing in more restrictions wont be protecting him or his mate’s best interests.

The phrase is ZUGZWANG

a situation in which the obligation to make a move in one’s turn is a serious, often decisive, disadvantage.

If Boris acts in the national interest he will be replaced by his party with someone who won’t put in new restrictions.

If Boris acts in the party political interest he gets hoofed out at the next election.

He must act but all his option are to his detriment.

So, he won’t act. He’s gonna bet on the apparent less serious impact of Omicron being enough to get by…

He could take a third option

Goes back into hospital with covid for two weeks, let Rabb make the decisions & political risks & then come back in to save the day.

Considering that we are speculating on the political aspects, I doubt HQAC know which way to jump at the moment.

He will go the third way, not put any restrictions in and resign before the election.

I know plenty of people who would vote against him if he did put more restrictions in.

The NHS is unable to cope with any increase in demand at any time. The thing is you cannot keep umpteen beds , facilities or equipment mothballed just in case as the cost would be high and the money put to better use elsewhere.

Let’s not drag this thread towards partisan political debate (comment deleted) with irrelevant pot stirring that has absolutely no bearing on the current and potential future RAFAC operations…

Like it or not, the political situation and what guides the decisions made is very much linked to what happens to what we do. The experts have supplied overly cautious and confusing information to feed the decisions made. It has filled more conversations and home, work and play than anything else, so why it should be different on here? I can see a tranche of posts that should be removed due to their partisan political content. I joined the debate, but proffering a different stance.

If we get another political decision based on what the “experts” are suggesting that means we have to close and go virtual, It has the potential to be more damaging than previous closures, as the enthusiasm for virtual has dissipated.

Central government has updated the list of key workers for those whose children still need to physical go into school.

All children need to physically go into school to avoid as those I work with say are lazy and did nothing during the first lockdown or have problems accessing online materials.
The areas I work in are subjects where hands on practical work is the only real way to learn. Since I started last April we have been doing all manner of experiments and practical work to get the kids skill levels to where they need to be to make a decent fist of exams and or be able to move on to the next level.

Since you’ve already outed yourself, neither the alternative 2019 election candidates nor Gordon Brown apply to this statement.

As I read it first look through, other posts you refer to were second guessing future actions of the current government that would have a tangible effect on the RAFAC, not dredging up history or political actors which clearly don’t impact us now. If there’s anything you feel is inappropriate and has been missed, then you can use the built-in flagging tools to request a review.

As per the AUP, you can take any further grievance regarding moderation to PM, otherwise I’ll just keep deleting.
