Except the Isle of Wight is not covid free.
IoM have lifted all Social Distancing / Covid Restrictions, so why continue to restrict them, I think it’s great to see some adaptability rather than a one size fits all.

agreed - i was just offering a list of other islands who are not overseas Squadrons…
except neither Ys Mon nor the IoW are in different countries. IoM isn’t in the UK, its a crown possession - BJ isn’t the PM there…
Crown Dependency
They aren’t even (and never were) in the EU so Manx students coming to UK universities had to pay full international student fees (though I think their government covered the difference for them)
Would be interesting if Jersey has gone back. My uncle lives on the island, I’ll transfer.
Why… we will all be back within 2 months…
Hahahaha hahaha haha
Ahem, as a “caulk-head,” please note that it is the Isle of Wight.
They are not the area with the highest rate in the UK. A high percentage of retired people reside on the IoW & they have more than their fair share of care homes too.
Take your passport with you.
I say build a bridge…
I can see it from my parent house on a good day… That’s enough
Until I had the operation, I could have seen your parents’ house - & my mother’s house with my second head.
Two primary options - bridge & tunnel. Bridge = problematic based on all the shipping for Soton & Pompey (mega-cruise liners, container ships & HMS Grey Line). Tunnel = problematic based on primary strata = chalk.
1024 Sqn would have had no issues for F2F in their old building, called the “Drill Hall” - it was huge! There was plenty of space for “marching” drill indoors, even up to full numbers! Tried to find some on-line piccies of the building, but no luck.
Build a wall!
I said a bridge, not a pontoon.
Build a bridge taking into account the space required for shipping.
If I remember correctly there were several sites identified on both sides for the bridge heads.
Local opposition on the prison isle stopped it.
Building a permanent connection would boost local economy many fold.
A tunnel through chalk. Just go deeper. Chalk layer is only so thick.
But again if i recall, a tunnel was rulled out as the bridge scoping project was sound.
Off topic?
(But in reply to the quote at the detriment to the ferry company…)
Last (off-topic) reply…
Lots & lots of pro / con arguments. Even the Wiki entry cautions on possible bias!
The construction of a fixed (tunnel or bridge) link has been proposed by a variety of groups over many years. Such proposals have divided opinion among the local population, with some opinion polling showing opposition, while some more recent surveys showing support depending on the type of proposal.[14]
The arguments for a fixed link include claims that it would boost the economy by creating more jobs, and provide faster, cheaper and less weather-dependent travel to the mainland. Conversely, the arguments against include the potential for the outsourcing of jobs and services to the mainland, a negative environmental impact (such as on the red squirrel population),[15] increases in traffic putting stress on the local road network,[15] the loss of the island’s character and thus a decline in tourism, a potential increase in crime,[15] and upward pressure on house prices.[15]
It has to be said that relatively simple access to the IoW might be detrimental to the local transport / road network - it’s horrendous at busy tourist times, even knowing all the back roads. It would, however, make commuting jobs (for IoW residents) much simpler / cheaper.
If a “link” is eventually chosen, then it will be at a huge cost (sure, the technology is available for either a bridge or a tunnel) & with divided opinion.
We can leave that there.
Just seen a sharepoint notice about a ‘total ban on temperature screening’…
Erm, doesnt HQAC realise that temp screening is used everywhere as an effective means of securing environments?
Ahhh civil servants meddling in things they are too stupid to understand
Saw an e-mail from Wing on that - made interesting reading. Apparently just as accurate as flipping a coin
