I might try to watch the replay later whilst doing some tedious work admin!
They stated that we no longer need to social distance on a minibus.
Eh!
What makes a minibus special?
alright alright, in any form of transport.
Technically I think the social distancing in vehicles is a MOD rule, nothing to do with the NYA.
I winced at the minibus statement! NYA have to be really careful with those statements! LA policies, school policies, MOD policies, Scout Policies, vehicle hire companies have ALL got different perspectives on this! And NYA guidance is great - but it’s one they should’ve deferred to local operating requirements!!! They can’t possible keep abreast of all of their providers AND satisfy the devolved administrations requirements.
So what we are saying is that we should all just take a locally decided common-sense approach, taking into account the risk profile of the area, the individuals involved and the specific circumstances at that moment in time…? It’ll never catch on.
But why is there no requirement to distance when transporting, but it remains in the classroom.
Maybe I’ll deliver all my training on a minibus now
They aren’t supposed to, NYA applies to ENGLAND only, they do tend to make this clear on all the webinars I’ve seen.
Is this like how you don’t need a licence to sell booze so long as you’re ‘on a journey’. Got to find them loop holes!
Presumably because it’s about minimising transmission whilst at the same time trying to balance practicality.
Distancing in vehicles makes it difficult to operate effectively and efficiently, so they’ve considered and decided that we can afford to try relaxing there… But, especially if we’re slightly increasing the risk for the period they’re in the bus, we should still distance where else we can.
A bit like asking “why is it okay for me to have a few X-Rays or a CT scan, but not okay to use radium soap?” Some small risk is acceptable as the means justify the ends, but why increase the risk unnecessarily elsewhere as well?
I would imagine that’s the logic behind it.
Just seen that the ACF are advertising their annual camps as going ahead this year.
So is my Wing.
Bit late to this, but technically doesn’t this mean we could take an entire year’s worth of staff cadets away and have them fall under the remit of an under 18 so in the young people category? And then be able to have 6 staff on top?
It’s a bit badly worded and should really have just been under 18 at time of activity, as anyone who has turned 18 in the past year, give or take 2 months is eligible to be part of the bubble of 30, and not include in the 6 staff.
I believe that is a work around to suit and satisfy academic year groups which, among others, includes a VERY large national flagship programme (something to do with Citizen’s Service)- and ensuring they can do activities over the summer. It’s clumsy wordology which, ironically, falls out of the education system!
My wing has a camp in August.
The region is going for an October camp
Might do the odd day… But have no desire to spend a prolonged period of time at knook
Anyone else having difficulty getting cadets to engage with cadet portal in a meaningful way?
I find it is particularly hard when our own staff don’t use it properly:
“Hey! Advertise this course to your squadron on cadet portal, but you still need to make a spreadsheet return…”
It’s confusing.
We have a closed Facebook page and after about 6 months of replying to every “can’t make it tonight” post with a standard response of authorise on cadet portal the message is getting through.
If by meaningful engagement you mean getting them to sign up, then sort of. We have trouble getting people to engage full stop at the minute, not just with CP. I think it’s unrealistic right now when some activities are back running and some aren’t to expect them to regularly check Cadet Portal. Anything interesting that comes up we’re posting on our closed Facebook group too (would use the announcements but it doesn’t email the cadets (yet) so would also require them to check Cadet Portal )
