Preparing to Return to F2F Activity... Again/Still

I need additional reassurance here… If I somehow manage to convince my 60 cadets to turn up tomorrow night for an outdoor drill and sports evening, I can have them all together in one bunch? Or will I still need to have them in 15 person bubbles outside?

It sounds completely insane.

This is the detail from NYA

From the 29th March, youth groups that meet outdoors no longer have group size restrictions. Groups can be of any size, although organisations should be cautious to ensure suitable safeguarding, supervision ratios and social distancing is in place.

So you can have you 60, but 2m distance needs to be maintained throughout

To quote Prof Chris W: “Just because you can, it doesn’t mean you should.”

From recent experience, social distancing in schools is kinda minimal. Despite the last year, young people struggle with the concept, and schools haven’t got the physical space to maintain 2m distancing. Expecting young people to then adopt it in youth clubs is optimistic.

Not to mention bringing together 60 young people across a range of schools, sixth forms, colleges and employers who’ve not seen each other for a while and expecting them to instantly “get it”.

Start small, build confidence. Find out what works for you and your specific environment - because everywhere will be slightly different.

I agree. I think we need to individually approach initial return as a proof of concept and process management trial.

Better to see or experience a problem small scale or (preferably) have everything go smoothly and gain insight on how to to upscale.

Apparently our region require ALL f2f activity to be approved by our wexo. No idea why.

That’s alright all of ours is still having to go to the ARC via the TSA!

As in individual elements or generally? AFAIK ours is reviewing and providing notes to RHQ before RHQ have final yes/no on a return, but not heard of anything more than that for WExOs…

I don’t know. I have just been told that every single face to face activity now has to go through our WExO. No idea how to do that other than just “submit to WHQ”. If that gets it to the right place then so be it.

Hence my question above about putting a staff meeting on SMS. I wouldn’t normally do that, but have been told all f2f must be approved…

We do seem to like making things difficult…

New RAFAC motto? :joy:

Indeed. I suppose ultimately it is the DDH’s neck on the block so they get to set the risk appetite - however I can’t help but feel that these are probably more ‘local’ enhancements to the requirements. I may of course be wrong.

Could it be because the DDH (Reg Comm) is still deployed?

@pEp given we are the same region it’s odd, as our WEXO advised the following yesterday;

Just a gentle reminder that if you wish to take part in outdoor activities commencing today a SMS event will need to be created with appropriate RAs attached. Most Sqn Cdrs will be able to self authorise these, however I have so far only received notification that one Sqn has submitted one.

I don’t think this is technically true but would be if we are using outdoor space that is not part of the unit or extended unit footprint, but he is allowing us to self approve.

Potentially. But someone on here in the same region but a different wing haven’t been told this. Yet my Wing have said it is a regional directive… :upside_down_face:

Ah good. Just us then!

It’s so much easier to blame those faceless ogres at Region though.

First I’m hearing of this! I really hope not - sounds like a right faff!

Ask for forgiveness not permission.

My new motto.

For far too long I have worked my bits off to satisfy wing et.al’s nonsense. No more.

I will follow the guidance in the recovery document. But no other local add ons.

We basically don’t have any of these at the moment because the RC isn’t around.

Our wing blamed the RC for suspending circa 100 staff because of a lack of Safeguarding/Prevent. Speaking to an RSO apparently the only direction form the RC to ARC was to “keep the focus on getting staff ACTO 99 compliant”.

The mass suspension caused a lot of pain/work for the affected volunteers & WHQ but has increased compliance. Each sqn pretty much now has a live example of WHQ saying do this or be suspended, and it actually happening so will no longer be an empty threat.

I just wish, they’d been honest and not placed the blame upwards.
