I see there has been a corps wide ban on camping and bivviing for field craft.
Anyone know the reason?

Just in time for the may bank holiday weekend. Nice one!
No problem, not like we’ve got a 3 day FT exercise coming up THIS WEEKEND or anything.
Hope you have nice hard accom booked.

I can’t say what I know for PERSEC reasons. But there is a very, very good reason.
Remove names? PM?
To be fair, there usually is a good reason. HQAC don’t do it unless there is.

Perhaps I won’t pack for DofE just yet…
We have a D of E exped this weekend, so now to wait 36 hours to see their decision on that! Great! Hopefully nothing too bad has happened…
Blanket bans are completely stupid though. At least tell us what the issue is so we can mitigate risks ourselves, rather than cancel an Entire Corps’ weekend plans with 2 days to go.
The trick is not to open your emails until next week
I can’t imagine it’s an equipment issue as everyone uses different kit, AFAIK we’re not suddenly going to get really bad weather and it’s not as if a load of man eating lions have escaped!
The stupid thing is if it’s to do with a personnel incident, what is a temporary ban going to achieve? We still will have 2 cadets sleeping in the same tent/bivvy, we will still have the same risks.
Reading through the email chain I’ve received tells me that the blanket ban has not come from HQAC.
AOC 22 Gp is apparently concerned over something (no idea what) and has ordered that it stops until assurances are put in place.
Don’t be daft us make a decision and given all the facts, that would be commonsense and wherever there’s anything attracting anything to do with H&S, commonsense goes out of the window at a speed that makes light look slow.
It makes you wonder whose side HQAC are on? We are trying to grow the organisation, cadets and staff, and unless there is an extremely bloody good reason, this, with the potential to stop hundreds of activities, especially if it leaks into AT/DofE, will do nothing to encourage people.
A situation has occurred which cannot be reversed for one poor individual. I don’t think any more needs to be said until the full details are released in the correct and dignified manner.

The implication is a sad one and most probably restricted to bivvying, as such in a tent doing AT or DofE, isn’t the same. If someone thinks that a tent is the same as a bivvy, we are in serious trouble.
Rather than this knee jerk reaction a note indicating that bivvies for cadet purposes need to be in a specified location and or easily seen/identified.

Better not get MTP bivvies, then. Those things are invisble.
As we don’t know the issue, it could well be a tent related issue. Let’s not speculate on what it is until it is released.

I just found out the reason this afternoon.
