Originally-proposed changes to RAFAC Wings / Flying badges : did this ever happen?

they are not volunteering and they are not an si

think it must be very unusual that a regular raf pilot gets there gliding wings as part of there regular service that’s my point

The wings arent for volunteering though nor are they ringfenced for CFAVs.

thank you - someone understands the point I make at least

I went through basic training with Ryan.

He’s currently holding for RPAS flying training.
Competed EFT as you’ve said, RAF don’t award wings until completion of further training as far as I’m aware.

Volunteers or is on VGS as his hold. Makes sense to have G1 wings as a G1 instructor?

Once he gets his actual wings, no doubt they get replaced.

it’s great to see.

too many people don’t get the point I am making here only lamplighter got it. to avoid doubt I have no issues with this officer wearing these gliding wings and he is doubtless entitled. my point though that there will be like very very few if any regular raf aircrew who have got glider wings in there primary role as we see here; the raf has not trained regulars to fly gliders since wwii and the army glider pilot regiment disbanded in the 1950s.

That may be your point. But it’s not what you said.

People were responding to your visible post about the wings having been RAFAC specific and RAF personnel newly being allowed them. They were not replying to your imaginary post which you’ve now explained as

I suspect that this is mainly a PR story. Good luck to the lad in his future career and I hope he soon earns his RAF Pilot Wings.

How does one know whether he is or isn’t volunteering as an SI? Surely someone clearly as eagled eyed and concerned around others existence would be able to notice that he has a UAS Tutor patch on. Which would suggest he may be on hold with a UAS and volunteering his time with the VGS?

Also surely if one has earned the wings, they are just as entitled as anyone else to wear the wings? Or is this just the case that someone is jealous that the VGS wings aren’t just for those in the VGS boys club?

The new Director of Defence Medical Services has his glider wings. (Although the old style). Would be interesting to know if he still volunteers with a VGS.

I’d definitely change to the new style so everyone would think I was a fast jet pilot then I could tell everyone I was at their party.
