Numismatics (Coin & Medal Collecting)

This guy’s personal collection is going pretty well for a crab!

Edit: And he still needs to add the corry bobs!

What’s the last one on the right?

I’m not a collector per se (although I do like to help my dad with his collection by adding to what he gained during his Merchant Navy days), but this new coin for Niue might change that…

So after much waiting and chasing I’ve finally got my Grandads service records back, need to do some cross referencing now, look up the Regimental war diaries etc.

One medal I thought he had he doesn’t (didn’t get to North Africa in time to be eligible), but he is eligible for a GSM with Palestine Clasp, just need to acquire one now so I can finish assembling his medals for my Mum.

So having managed to assemble them all, can anyone recommend someone to swing mount WW2 medals?

They will need ribbons replacing etc so I’m assuming that lots of the usual suspects wouldn’t have them in stock as they would be focussed on court mounting more modern medals?

Pretty much any medal mounting service will do court or swing mounts. They can also provide ribbons and they should clean the medals as well.

Depending on where you are in the UK there will be one locally.

Alternatively you could do them yourself. Lots of You Tube videos will show you how.

I’ve always used Mess Dress in Bournemouth. Very helpful, quick turn round, super job and they do a postal service too if you can’t get there. Give them a call.

@CFMmounting

I was very happy with his work and will absolutely use him again should I ever require those services.

Seconded.

Yeah that’s who I’ve used in the past and who I’m going with this time.

So why ask everyone?

Because it was 9 days ago?

Is the protocol to wear all 3 (miniature, breast star and neck decoration) when in mess dress? I was caught off guard as I know typically only the neck decoration and breast star is worn.

I think you might be right that the answer is no, but I don’t think I’ve seen anyone ever do it if they also had other medals.

I assume it’s because having a separate set of medals and beckets(?) is a PITA.

But I’d be interested to know for sure.

It feels a bit like someone “liking” their own Facebook post, to see the award repeated so much.

On the topic of breast stars, acquired my 2nd DPRK one (top right).
