Evening all
So I received my initial kitting last week.
The shirts both short and long sleeve are clearly marked MALE but have come without front pockets. At first I thought oh no I’ve been issued female shirts but then checking the back there are no pleats.
Is this a recent change in uniform?
Yep, it’s the new standard. I hate it

Probably cost cutting. Imagine it saves circa 50p a shirt on the extra fabric and buttons…
To me at least it looks weird when you’re the only one sans buttons, but at least it makes the ironing marginally easier?
That’s true. I must admit ironing was a breeze.
And honestly, who uses the pockets?
It was a fun intro into uniform however when the first time wearing my blues was in front of the WWO and their entire DI crew.
I miss the tiny pen pocket tbh, even if we weren’t really meant to use it… (for formal stuff anyway)
I know you added the caveat at the end but let’s not perpetuate silly myths.
What myths?
I think they meant the idea that you can’t use pockets for their clearly intended design purpose.
Pen pockets, hand warmer pockets etc.
Pockets on a long sleeve shirt were a bit too “school”.
Pockets on a short sleeve balanced it out a bit (though short sleeves are generally a bit too “dad at the neighbour’s BBQ” or “UPS”).
I think we should save more money and just roll our sleeves. You know, like the cadets do…
I put my MOD90 into my shirt pocket.
Lanyard round my neck, then tucked into my pocket, so it doesn’t flap around. I do the same in my MTP
Surely putting it in your pocket defeats the point of having it on a lanyard around your neck…
Once they reach male cadets, they are going to have to do the same as female cadets with their lanyards.
Good point, hadn’t even considered the lanyard side of things…
