New Commandant

I applied as well but didn’t hear anything back. Would have been good to get an acknowledgement and a yes or no at least.

Yeah, that’s disappointing.
Your Wing would have known who they were nominating by the 12th of February, and they knew the results of the final selection around about the 19th of February.

Not a great show of courtesy there.

My bad, my reading was that RHQ would have 1 per wing from which to select 2.

Where’s the SNCO representation?

That’s the entire problem with anything that has CoC involvement in selection.

Or any non OC representation. Be that squadron officer, SNCO or CI?

@AlexCorbin don’t be ridiculous. It’s a committee… with an SNCO something might be achieved instead of the tea drinking, biscuit dunking and self congratulating.

Leave our committees alone!

I suppose that the logic might be that the SNCO representation should already be in place through your Wg WO; given that they can take your views forward to the annual conference or pass up the chain as and when required.
With the artist formerly known as CACWO sitting on the Command Board now that’s a step in the right direction.
I’ll grant that it’s not the regular meetings with CRAFAC which the other panels have, but it is 6 per Region (ish) representation rather than 2.

Perhaps there were some NCO Sqn OCs selected? And frankly if you’re only choosing 2 staff per Region, OCs have a suitably broad view of how things work, which other roles don’t.

When I first heard about it I assumed it was done on the basis that every squadron should have an OC, but not every squadron has an SNCO or sqn officers.

Not great logic, mind.

By this same logic though OCs already have representation via OC wg to regional commandant?

Perhaps it was felt that Wg WOs were already doing a better job and that the OCs needed a more functional route…

I applied, didn’t get it but was copied in on an email that said who was selected from the Wing (one of my Cadets was selected) but no other communications to say thank-you but no thank-you.

I do know an NCO (WO) was selected in another Wing/Region so there is some NCO representation.

We didn’t even get asked. Heard about it then applied. Last I heard, so I’m guessing we won’t be represented.

That is really annoying if people have applied and not heard anything back. Completely against good practice.

It’s how applying for jobs works nowadays… No interest no notification :man_shrugging:

Also impacted with the sheer number of people who are applying for jobs nowadays. We just put out a job to indeed and got over 150 applications when we normally only see 10-15.

I agree and I’ve experienced it multiple times myself however it should not be the case and as I’ve said, against good practice and at least is common courtesy, even with volume recruitment. This should probably be more in GMG though :joy:

I would hope that we’re just hearing about the one or two exceptions and that most Wings did it the right way.
Certainly here, the Wg WO replied to each nomination in the first instance to thank them; then wrote again to each person after the Wing selections had been made to say whether they were being nominated or not; and then again after the final selection to let those people know whether they were successful.
It can’t have been particularly onerous and just seems like the basic, decent thing to do.

Surely all they had to say was if you don’t hear back in the affirmative by a certain date then thank you for your application but you have been unsuccessful.
