It depends on your expectations, I guess.
Personally, I would expect anybody requesting applications from volunteers to bear in mind the additional burdens you’re asking them to take on, and treat the applicants accordingly.
However, the pseudo-military nature of our organisation means that a lot of our senior volunteers lack the leadership skills needed to effective manage and motivate their fellow volunteers, and instead rely on the “Me Sqn Ldr, you Flt Lt” method of leadership.
Sending out a few semi-personised emails saying “thanks, but bad luck this time” isn’t asking much.
