Can I just ask, as I could not see it (May have missed in the many comments and clarifications!) and was asked the question last night by a Cadet, will the app work to the level needed to access base etc without data?
Yes. And characters.
Great, I will feed that back
LOL or rather itâs supposed to.
Whether the guards on gate will recognise it is a different matter.
The app will store offline data for 30 days so as long as they have had data in that time, they will be okay. That is the longest period of time the security folks were prepared to accept.
DSR who lead on defence security are engaged and are issuing the appropriate instructions through their existing processes so fingers crossed!
Assuming that we staff canât access MyRAFAC, can we have a comprehensive how to guide for how it works so we can guide cadets through it?
Weâve seen the issue time and time again with Cadet Portal - especially post pandemic when we lost the majority of older cadets - that while we might expect younger people to be tech-savvy and to pick up an intuitive app, many simply arenât. They donât work it out and need help.
We canât offer that help because weâve never seen it and donât know how it works.
So, a how to guide would be extremely useful please.
Never understood the reluctance to give us the option of âcadet viewâ so we can see what our squadrons cadets are seeing - just as a double check, peace of mind thing. âYou donât need itâ that weâve been told before is just so unhelpful.
We have an âextraâ cadet on squadron so that we can log into cadet portal and make sure things that should pass through, do. When they age out you just reset their DoB.
Which is fine as long your happy to pay for them.
Just find a CFAV with a son/daughter in the corps and you are golden
Sit down with your SNCOs on Tuesday.
There is a walkthrough video coming, so it can be âseenâ
The IBN didnât seem to cover what the alternative is for those who canât use the app for ID. All the way along an alternative was promised, but it seems to have been missed/forgotten now. As we can no longer get 3822âs, what is the alternative and how do we get it?
Cadets under 16 have no need to have ID on station - they are escorted by the CFAVs they are with. Cadets over 16 can get a station pass just like any other person (or CI) vising a station who are not MoD90 holders. ITS NOT COMPLICATED, itâs a system we have used for decades for CIs, and the RAF have used for visitors to stations. And a 3822 WAS NEVER an official form of ID. Accepted yes, but official no, so we are actually in a better situation than we were before.
How often do cadets actually go to one of the 4 RAF stations that are left? If itâs ours, then theyâd only need once a year, tops.
Iâm going to ask a silly question.
I take it Army /Navy bases have been informed of the air cadet change as well?
Iâm assuming they have & itâll be fine butâŚ
Itâs just thereâs a tendency amongst RAFAC to only think single service & then get surprise when blockers suddenly pop up. I know there a couple of air cadet Sqns on the other services bases. There will be ways round but short term confusion is never good.
I know the army base I went on accepted air cadet 3822s as did the naval bases. (Having said that the MoD Plod at the army bases saw no need in us getting a pass in lieu of a MOD90 as we were in uniform and happy waved us in & out the gate with our stopping or checking anything more advanced than a Tescos club card so probably wonât be an issue)
Ben has said that defence security agencies have been engaged.
How deep the training has reached, remains to be seen, but still, the numbers of cadets visiting stations and not being covered by the CFAV escorting them in by car, minibus or coach is going to be extremely small.
Which RAF Police are running alongside your car checking your ID while youâre driving? Youâll stop at the gate and show ID in the same way you normally do. Honestly, letâs not over complicate this.
Not what I meant. Itâs still against the law to use your phone while stopped.
(Just realised this is best suited in the other thread - oops)
