I suppose, mid afternoon lull. It would seem any RAF support seems to be going to rat poo!
Weāve got blue uniform though! Weāre ok!
True.
Iām fairly certain I remember reading that the MoD has indeed done exactly that. Whether they actually did in the end, I donāt know.
To continue my camouflage geekeryā¦if you look at proper tropical DPM uniform, itās actually a hell of a lot lighter than the usual DPM, much closer in shade to (drum roll, please) MTP, in fact.
The logic was that when youāre in the jungle you spend all your time soaking wet from rain, sweat, river crossings, etc and so your clothes end up looking darkerā¦
Saying that, somebody told me that the Jungle School out in Brunei are still wearing DPM in the treesā¦
I know the feeling of the initial āDPM looks so much betterā reaction, though. After a while it reverses itself; I canāt look at DPM now without thinking how old fashioned and Cold War it looksā¦
Mwahahahahahaha! Thread resurrection!
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/the-welsh-cavalry-swap-scimitars-for-jungle-boots
Check out the above link for some photos of MTP in the jungle. The photo of the GPMG in an ambush demonstrates what I was saying about wet clothes - at first glance the trooper manning it looks like heās wearing DPM, the soaking makes his shirt/jacket as dark as his webbing. CS95 would just look black.
Itās worth noting that the bit of jungle theyāre in has plenty of brown in it as well as green, too. Thereās plenty of different types of jungle, depending on location, time of year etc: MTP is more likely to help you blend in across a wider range of them.
The other things people seem to forget is that 1)camouflage clothes are only an aid to camouflage and concealment, not an invisibility cloak. Personal fieldcraft skills are arguably more important (although MTP will give you an edge over someone without it ideally). And 2) camouflage patterns arenāt just about making you look like the background, but about breaking up your shape and confusing the eye. Think about zebras and tabby cats.

Nicely done.
Though, the airsofter ālifezize Chewbaccaā ghillie suits sure are ammusing thoughā¦

Small update: Due to the redesign of the PCS LW jacket, cadets now have to wait longer as no more of the old design are being purchased. The current estimate is August/September. This means that the surplus CS95 stocks now have to last until then, so there will be far less left over in the system!
From what I hear (having queried last week), CS95 stocks in the MoD supply (in all but one size) are quite considerable. On the same token, there are still a considerable number of regular personnel (and, I suspect, reservists too) who are yet to receive their initial issue of MTP.

Indeed, but a lot of people will be demanding that stock!
Also, remember that we have very different size needs to the rest of the MoD. A bundle of kit in āsoldier sizeā is probably only about 40% useful for a cadet force.

Opposite from what I heard. I heard that Sgt Badger up at HQAC was struggling to put enough together o kit out just JL15
Iāve heard this and that JL15 may be issued MTP.
I heard that Sgt Badger doesnāt really know whatās in his storeā¦and that paperwork and manuals from the 1940ās have been recently found in there. Apparently the police are currently investigating as itās also believed that Lord Lucan may be hiding under a pile of battledress and '37 pattern webbing.

Most likely for JL16, theyād only be able to wear it on course, not at unit. The DS who are on squadrons and not permanent staff may not get it, as theyāre not scaled.
Personally I see this whole thing as an opportunity. Soon weāll be the only people who wear DPM, so EVERYONE will be wearing Arctic, SAS and Para smocks

Yeah, I know. I donāt want CS95 - Iām trying to get my lot (not Cadets!) MTP!
JLās in MTP? hope they are ordering XXXXXXXXXXX Large helmets and covers!!! Bet they are gonna be getting MK7 Helmets and osprey next too!
HRH Prince Michael of Kent, Cdre-in-Chf Maritime Reserves, reviews RMR Marines in Norwayā¦in MTP
TA Private Nicola Harding, a non-Marine from Plymouth, with the RMR in Norwayā¦wearing MTP
So is there no paler/MAWC version of MTP?? Because the RMR seem to just wear white coveralls when theyāre in Snow Patrol modeā¦

pps no marks for recognising the BV206s if youāve ever done AEG at 662ā¦
ppps Glenfiddochā¦seriously??
the british military have been issueing whites for artic warfare for decades. Surprisingly DPM wasnt that brilliant on snow either! so your point wilf?
I just wondered if there might have been a snow/splinter version of MTP (yes, I know, āmultiā, butā¦)
Iāve always thought the arctic whites are only effective against deep/clean snowā¦some splinter camoflague would be betterā¦like the ādazzle shipsā scheme
wilf_san
ps
the whites did use to have a revesable white with a white/green cam pattern. dont know how often it was issued/used but was designed for use in winter woodland
I think Iād heard of that ages ago, but Iāve never seen them (even in pictures).
Hereās a close-up of the much-better MTP ECW cap. NSN 8415-99-423-1778 to 423-1780, S/M/L.

Yes we will. Scheduled for later this year according to Coy Cdrs conference minutes. This may slip due to ACF issue issues.
However Lympstone follow the guidelines of the admiralty, not CGS, and so the RM tuck PCS shirts in, and roll up sleeves in order to not look like a shower ofā¦poop. Thereās fuel for another long, petty and ultimately pointless discussion. Iāll leave it with youā¦
