May 7th local Elections

In the 2014 Scottish referendum, the only areas where the majority voted Yes were Glasgow and Dundee.

If the result had gone the other way, would the rest of Scotland have had a case to stay in the Union and leave Glasgow and Dundee to their own devices?

He could address the uncertainly by setting out a timetable for the process to elect his successor. This could be stretched out over a year or so to allow for hustings around the country, speeches at party conferences, etc.

Unlikely, but this is where the Swiss system specifies the required regional vote; it avoids high population centres biasing the overall national coverage.

Kier Starmer says he is staying in post…..standby for another U-turn!

I see Reform’s “improved” vetting standards are working then…

Anyone else thinking “feature not bug” at this point?

If you take the SNP position on Brexit into account that’s what they think.

I think this would further destabilise… there would be no major policy changes in the next 12 months and the uncertainty would grow, as we’d have longer not knowing who the next PM will be and what their economic policy will be.

Heaven forbid a PM without the authority to pass anything without having to u-turn all the time. Imagine that?

Funny, when Nigel does it it’s a sign of strength….

Kemi just likes to pretend that there never was another policy to U-turn from.

So I’m seeing loads on social media about a Reform Councillor wanting a report in UFO’s near an airport?

I haven’t watched the video as I just haven’t, for context was he talking about drones and he’s been deliberately misinterpreted, or is he a fruitloop?

I think he was talking bout drones & it’s been exaggerated as they’ve set up a panel to monitor it.

Even if he’s talking about drones, what on earth would that have to do with the local council?

They were talking about reopening a local airport, so I would assume licensing/planning application?

I’ve seen another council moaning that Reform is now the largest party on 20 something seats, but nowhere near the 51 for a majority, and upset that the progressive parties are not dealing with them.

Same happened last year, I understand it, but it can cut both ways, if people are voting Reform because they already feel disenfranchised then everyone refusing to work with their elected representative isn’t going to get them back on board.

He’s probably worried about the possibility of a mid-air collision between large drone and a manned aircraft, with the resulting accident on his patch. Maybe he was raising the concerns of a local, i.e. doing his job!

It’s a bit academic - he is raising an issue that would disappear should the airport be successfully re-licensed / opened; the corresponding air space would automatically become a drone “no-fly” zone.

One down - albeit not from this round of local elections:

I think this is the carosel effect we were talking about in the building closure thread

The old ones are expiring as the new ones are coming in

I’m honestly amazed more people aren’t getting done for this. Seen so much stuff that’s obviously absolute nonsense.
