Anyway, we fired 1000’s of rounds on the then SA80s, LSWs & bull-pup version (for APC drivers i think).
Bullpup refers to the design where the mag and chamber are behind the pistol grip so the SA80 family are all bullpups, and consists of the rifle (L85), LSW (L86) and the carbine (L22) - you are quite correct, the carbine was intended for use by tank and AFV crews, helicopter crews, and doghandlers, and was also used by the Royal Marines Fleet Protection Group (now 43 Commando Fleet Protection Group RM).
Would be interesting to see an L22A3 with similar upgrades the L85A3 got. Only seen and handled one once, quite an interesting thing.
I agree, never got to handle the L22, would like to compare the feel and balance. Especially as I have large ‘mitts’ and mightfind the L22 a bit to o ‘toy-like’ for my comfort.
