Keeping Squadrons Going with Coronavirus (Technology)

both at the moment

That must be stopped. Now!

Seriously though I have seen that and it gives me hope. They are our future Adult Volunteers right there.

well it has put me right off from the start…another YOU MUST NOT email from above :frowning:

The IBN only mandates that we don’t deliver online training outside of Bader (read as O365 in this case.)
I see nothing to suggest that we can’t use our own material, as we’ve been doing in the classroom for years.

Of course, the IBN then goes on to toll the virtues of MS Teams ā€œa unified communication and collaboration platform, combining persistent chat, video meetings and file storageā€ā€¦ None of which the cadets will have access to (aside from being invited as guests to meetings) as I understand it.

I’ve asked for clarification on whether that applies to CCF(RAF), as I suspect it may not (if schools are using existing VLEs, for example, with their own safeguarding in place). Stand by…

Reference MS Teams…
And I havent used it before…

Is it a case all users on a session can be seen by all? Or is it voice only?

Or is it instructor has webcam, others can see but not respond?

Just for my planning. Thanks.

HQAC need to provide some guidance on that but it is flexible. Could have all, some, none of presenter only using webcam or sharing screen. If presenter shares screen, that replaces the webcam feed. I tend to get people to turn cameras off unless needed where I use Teams in my day job as it can slow down the connection when lots of people use it.

We also don’t want to be seeing cadets in their pyjamas…

Working shirt, brassard, and lounge shorts. Ultimate cadet home-learning package.

So have you managed to have some sort of interaction with Cadet’s?

Our Training officer is currently waiting for further information from wing. What information he is waiting for I have no idea :zipper_mouth_face: I’ve had an idea or 2 with one being kahoot or some kind of training based on classifications but with constantly being told not yet, or that wont work. I give up trying to get something going :exploding_head: I understand volunteers in uniform do have more say than CI’s but seriously? I’ll be surprised if we get any Cadet’s back at this rate.

It’s called teams and its approved by HQAC.
Check your emails. Ask your OC.

Yeah, we start virtual parades tomorrow with a full schedule ready to run and go. Cadets chomping at the bit to get started

We’re planning to start on Thursday.

I just looked it up, googled it and youtubed it and I’m 110% confused :exploding_head:

We’ve had the following advice from our WExO:

Online video training should be avoided.

In context I’m assuming he’s meaning we should be sticking to audio only, but I’m a bit confused to the aversion to video.

A large part of human interaction is in body language, so seeing a class is important. As a large number of us now, I use video calling daily in a professional context (and have been doing for longer than many I suspect) - I’m struggling to see the concern of having video mugshots in conference calls.

The confusion won’t go away when you start using Microsoft Teams…
It’s impressive how hard Microsoft has made it to schedule a conference call.

I’d set the call up well before and you can share specific windows from your desktop such as powerpoint…just get that lined up before the little darlings log on I think they are just referring to seeing all of our faces!

You can do that with Discord, but I’m sure there will be murder for me suggesting that platform  Been using it a while now and is easy to get people to sign up and send them a link to join the channel and Susan’s your uncle.

Alas, IBN17 would prevent such simplicity.

The bit I still havent understood is… will we the instructors be able to see the cadets?

Am assuming they can see us?
