IBN 013 - 2021: 3822A & 3822H

Ok. But devils advocate…

It’s a typed signature.
2 years later a cadet breaks their leg on parade, falls over or something…

Parent denies ever giving consent.

Where is our proof as a Sqn that we got consent?
Upload of the document with a typed signature is surely not it?

Not trying to be difficult
Just want to understand this point.

Thanks all.

Completely agree with you. If something went to court (which is why we have these basically…?) There’s no real audit trail with just a typed name, if the email isn’t also uploaded

@james_elliott any guidance. Ta.

Not sure we need the guidance tbh. If it says typed name is fine then go with it. Not my/our problem if it causes RAF Legal issues down the line :man_shrugging:

Maybe.

Perhaps I am being overly worried. But worse case I could be asked to prove I obtained consent for a cadet to attend an activity in future.

Dont get be wrong. I’m going to proceed as we have been told. Just asking for clarity.

Save all the emails as a PDF and store them in OneDrive? :man_shrugging:

Pretty sure the IBN stated the emails must be deleted.

I’ve not even found the IBN yet

c. Once steps a-b have been completed, any emailed copies of the forms are to be deleted leaving the only electronic copy on the cadets record on Bader SMS.

(Actually managed to find it on mobile :astonished::astonished:)

ah - that’s different though. I was suggesting saving the email (not any attachments) as a PDF - this would at least show the email had come from the parent’s email address

Just because you have deleted the email doesn’t mean it’s not retained elsewhere on the servers. In a case like an inquest it would be for RAF Legal to gather all of the relevant information and the email would be part of it.

Good points.

Would there not also be metadata on the form showing which computer had typed in the signature?
I’m computer illiterate so am probably wrong though

You could, but can you imagine HQAC thinking about that?

Equally, a written signature could be forged by a cadet

Also true.

But look everyone, I’m was not asking to make life difficult or for Ww3. But for clarity on the issue.
Starting to get these back now and want to be sure. That’s all!

Which school? That’s a heck of a lot more than normal.
Although remember the contingent commander is also the DDH so has that extra level of responsibility that rests with the RC in the ATC

A parent has just forwarded the email they have received on to me.
What an unprofessional and illiterate missive it is!!!
I am totally embarrassed that we, as an organisation which purports, *inter alia, * to be educational simply beggars belief.
The points already raised in the discussion only serve to emphasise what a shoddy job has been done concerning the burden put on CFAVs, legal implications, proof reading and the potential implications.
Not the 1st time, and I know it won’t be the last!

Can you copy & paste it here, removing the identifying parts?
