HM King Charles III - Coronation Medal

The ribbon is always on your nose 1 jacket.

Then you position the medal to be attached to the Number 1 jacket with the ribbon underneath

Your original message sounds like you were planning on swapsies every time

Yeah the one I’ve always been told is not at a funeral…why the rule seems to always get broken.

That makes sense - so the medal itself has a pin that you attach it to the No 1 jacket with, but you need a separate ribbon to keep on the No1 jacket at all times, then the medal just goes over the top for a parade?

Yep

And to do it properly you should take the jacket to a tailor for the attachment loops…which the actual name escapes me (remembered - Becket)

Attachment loops so that’s where the medal pin would sit through? Do they go above where the ribbon would be?

Yes.. otherwise you risk damaging the jacket

Example above (don’t know where I got ‘brocket’ from!)

Thank you both, that’s a huge help. @AlexCorbin @ArthurHarris

Why don’t they tell you these things before you stick the medal in the jacket😂 which was an absolute pain by the way.

Do either of you know any decent places to buy a ribbon? Also is it silly to get a copy of the medal made for uniform wear and keep the og for keepsakes to avoid damage etc? Or is that overkill/worrying too much?

Don’t, just find a tailor.

Regarding duplicate medals, it’s not silly and happens a lot. Particularly those riding horses as people come island pinch them off the road if they fall off…

Whatever you do, don’t get this type of thing:

The ribbon should sit flush against the jacket and this arrangement doesn’t allow that to happen.

Best bet is to support a local tailor if you can find one. Leave the jacket with them to source and fit the ribbon and beckets.

Thank you - I’ll have a look. I used a local tailor recently to alter my jacket, but they weren’t a military tailor so I’m guessing they might not know what to do with this?

@OC.1324 thank you re duplicate medals, I think I’ll get a copy one for parade wear and keep the og.

It gets expensive!

Hopefully last q- what are the measurements for the placement of ribbon/medal? I’ve seen a couple of different measurements/placements.

Check out ACP 1358 - the new version has a whole chapter on this.

I got my 2 medals mounted & ribboned before Xmas = £36.50

Without specifics, what part of the world are you, we might be able to recommend a tailor who will just do this all for you

So for mounting (and I think he will order the replica for you) I can’t praise Cadet Forces Medal Mounting enough (just search him on Facebook), he’s a WWO and knows his stuff.

I think he will also do the tunic for you but you have to drop it off and pick it up, he won’t do that by post.

North East?

County at a min?

Yeah James is a good egg.

Seconded.

For tailoring I use Tin Trousers in Gosport, but only because they are local to me and a military tailor
