Gazetting Query

I’ve done a search and I can’t find any records for myself.

I’m imagining we don’t actually get any notification of being gazetted and it relies on the individual searching online?

pretty much yes.

I just kept searching against my service number until the result popped up!

Thanks!

Although I have to say, I’m not sure how bothered I am.

When I first heard about it, I was thought it was actually published and members of the public may read it (I’m guessing that is the original purpose and it’s continued for tradition?

My understanding it’s now more an online database/list?
Happy to be proved otherwise!

People get very hot under the collar about gazetting, I’m also not entirely sure why.

I think it might be a bit of a hangover from days gone by?

I’ve asked the question before and never really got an answer on why it makes a blind bit of difference to anything or anyone!

Yes that is my thoughts too!

I’m imagining that historically all commissioned Reg/Reserve officers got gazetted and it was more a note for society, much like some people announce births and engagements etc. in the newspaper and we just got added in. Although, given it is a CF comission, should we still be gazetted? I’ve not opinion either way.

In a way I’m thinking it would be nice if it was something physical (I believe you can get a copy ordered) so I could send it to my parents. Although would they care, perhaps not. Regular/reserve appointment yes, this probably not, mainly because they still refer to it as toy soldiers :joy:

I do understand that some are very proud of their commission and so maybe I need to be a bit more enthusiastic!

I take it back. It seems they are up to mid December with a load in this week’s edition.

Where is @anon72613902 when we need a good moan about The Gazette?

Im sure it serves a purpose. Just what that purpose for us is is beyond me.
