What are the new regulations over wearing FSC rank slides whilst on squadron/courses/camps? I.e. Not whilst doing FSC duties.
On FSC related duty only!

If you are a FSC you wear FSC rank slides regardless of being on VGS or normal Sqn

Arguably for the better. Bit silly having to change them all the time, and try to define what is and what is not FSC duty.

Wayyy off topic, but how do you actually go about becoming an FSC? They’re just one of those mysterious things that somehow happens somewhere in the org but nobody actually knows anyone that’s done it.
Be near a VGS /AEF ideally, be able to commit to multiple weekends a month, apply when there’s a vacancy, typically as part of a scholarship.

So I’m a FSC at an AGS and I basically asked on the day when I did my bronze ATP course, spoke with the OC and got invited back to shadow the staff and decide on joining or not. I know someone as well that became a FSC at an AEF by asking when they were there and eventually ending up as one. I’ve seen both the local AEF and VGS near me put out recruitment notices via the local wings for applicants to apply as well. Best advice I can give though is ask when you’re up there and try speak to the OC or one of the officers at the AEF/VGS/AGS on the day and see where that takes you. If you can’t do that, ask squadron staff to keep an eye out for any recruitment notices. Hope that helps!

Hmmmmm so I’m under the impression only VGS and AEFs are scaled for FSCs and therefore FSC rank slides as the owner of them is 2FTS, which AGS don’t form part of. They are part of the region system

It is a 2 FTS only thing. VGS only.
I think there is an ongoing discussion about 6 FTS and FSCs.
FSCs have been on AEFs for eons although many do not feel the need for them. AEFs are scaled for 2 FSCs per establish aircraft. We, however, integrate them into the AEF and are an important part of AEF Ops. Can we operate without them? Yes, but when we have them they ease the burden on the AEF staff and our day becomes a lot easier.
I can only speak for an AEF but if you speak to one of the FSCs or AEF staff members they should be able to point you in the right direction as to how to apply. We advertise through the WAvnOs roughly every 6 months but whether that gets to the cadet noticeboard is down to the Squadron staff. I have found that there is some reluctance for cadets to become FSCs from the Squadron office.

Ohh, well I’m a FSC at an AGS and I’m on the system (bader/cadet portal) as such and I know of other AGSs that have FSCs. The AGS I’m at as well has a few, so too do the other I know about.
The thing that gets me is when a cadet has earned their FSC rank, but the squadron won’t allow them to wear them on a parade night, or even teach aeronautical subjects; because they are a cadet, and the staff know more!!
Currently, it doesn’t include AGS flight staff cadets.
That’s just incorrect and may be that they’re not aware the rule has changed.
Just advise the cadet to come equipped with a reference and help point the staff to it. I know I’d be grateful if someone helping point me to the reference.
