Getting excited now.

Whilst I was originally meant to be undertaking a 50km race this weekend, I’ve dropped it down to 22km due to injury and simply not being able to get the training in.

I’m currently sat on the colectivo, waiting to head to the nearest town from the nearest city. Things are starting to get a little real.

There’s a genuine possibility that I won’t be able to complete this race, and that’s part of what makes it exciting. As well as the numerous mountains of the Andes and all of the waterfalls.

Kick off Saturday 0700R. Did a small acclimatisation run yesterday (my lungs were on fire going uphill - and I’m only at 2,300m AMSL) and will do another either this afternoon or tomorrow.

Is that 1000m of ascent!!
I’m sure you’ll smash it,

I’ve got a 53km planned for September and some of the training runs alone are putting me off but also exciting in a strange way.

Indeed it is, 1,000 metres positive elevation. Gonna be taking plenty of sweets with me to get through that.

Which 53-er are you taking on?

That’s quite a climb!

Sea2Sky in Snowdonia

That also looks pretty epic, and I know some of the paths there aren’t the smoothest.

Meanwhile I’ve just arrived for kit collection, and the only way this place could feel more jungly is if a puma stepped out from the bushes!

Been given the thumbs up to start running again by the doc, so couch to 5k is getting downloaded.

Any recommendations on those running vest/water carrying things

For a 5k you really don’t need them; just make sure you’re hydrated well beforehand and you’ll be fine. I’m only taking water on tomorrow’s 20k because it’s part of the mandatory kit.

Also remember that when you’re starting out or restarting, there’s no such thing as running too slowly. Try not to get frustrated. When I went back to running post-covid I was struggling to run for a full minute, but it’ll come back to you quickly enough.

Look me up on Strava if you want some remote-based peer pressure to keep you motivated.

Yeah will do.

Im planning to just get back to 30 mins consistent running. Which couch to 5k is awesome for

Yeah I’m looking forward to it.
I’ve never been that part of snowdonia, planning to get over there before hand to reccee the summit.

Echo what WN said, this is the first time I’m using a vest to carry water. C25K is how I first got into running, it’s a good programme to get you into it.

If you do want a vest though, I’ve got the Kinder from Harrier. They are generous in their sizing so fits a bit better for me.

Also a Kinder wearer and it’s excellent.

Kinder were selling at the event today, I should have gone for it!

Also, I survived! Christ that made Dodentocht feel like a warm-up and me feel like the single most unfit person alive.

I am looking to do this in 2026.

Across Wales Walk

Looks interesting, you would have thought it would be more than 45 mile.

I want to ride the Trans-Cambrian way at some point, it’s just finding the time to get bike fit enough to do it.

Interesting reading the about the doubling, tripling etc. Some people just need to make it harder!

The fact that doubling etc has to be done in a consecutive 18hour period. Take a rest between 18 hour period only makes is consecutive and it’s not a proper double.

New Squat PR this morning.
170kg

Now brings my total lifts to 501kg.

No way you’ll catch me doing those long runs, but I also managed to pass an actual running fitness test last week, which is a definite upgrade to the Rockport walk I’ve been doing since 2020.

Went running yesterday and safe to say I still hadn’t recovered fully from my race on Saturday. MML: being in the middle of nowhere and catching the very clear ā€œwas that a [expletive] gringo!?ā€ looks from the locals. Here’s the river crossing:

There’s now nothing ahead in my calendar and it leaves me pondering where to pivot to next; nail down a sub-20 5k or target more cross-Andean ultras/multi-day events. I also have 2 more months on my gym membership, so would welcome any suggestions for functional strength training and calisthenics that are more than just push-ups and sit-ups…

Just finished half marathon 26 of 52 today!

Slightly ahead and hoping to hit more than one per week by the end of 2025, if I can sustain extra output through the odd holiday and annual reserve commitment etc.

Feet are in clip and my knees ache a bit…

Need to get a bit better on the fundraising front because I probably won’t be doing this challenge again…
