Fair comment.

Runna app downloaded and the ten year old rebooks replaced. Should try and remember how this running malarky works.

Also danish endurance boxers are ftw

Running - caution on the potential long-term issues for knees (& maybe hips).

Used to be one of the running brigade (in boots) especially at Cranditz as a flt cdr. Would warm up with the baby officer cadets for their first 1.5 mile run (they were in sports kit, staff in boots, KD shirts + OG trousers). BOCs thinking, pah, we’ll burn them up, give 'em a lap, then they’ll drop out.

Ah, no. Ok, then maybe after 2 laps - especially with the amount of strong “encouraging” verbals from the staff.

Ah, no again. Three laps = pleeeease??

Nope. All the laps. Just sub-10 mins quite comfortably (& lapping some of the tail-enders - we had words at the end about expectations & effort!), with no wheezing or :face_vomiting:-ing, unlike quite a few of the BOCs. :smiling_imp:

That was when I was fitter, a bit lighter & a 30-32" waist!

Now with a 36" waist (no so bad) but with one knee that had an operation a few yrs ago for weakened meniscus & the other knee just starting to have the occasional flare up of osteoporosis (the other one had been “cleaned out” a bit when the surgery was done.

I know quite a few “mature” Rocks -more than a few have had knee problems - including knee replacement operations.

I’ve started using this more recently, it’s not cheap but I do like it.

I can expense it through work as a benefit. So lucky me! Also they covered the shoes

It’s a fantastic app. You won’t be disappointed.

Any recommendations on smart watches to track?

My S3 frontier is now end of life and wont update etc

Start with something simple like this -

Forerunners are great and you can read their specifications by their three digit number (if it has a 2 digit model number, assume the first digit is a zero).

First number: The level of spec. 0 is the lowest, up to 9 as the highest.

Second number: The model iteration. The latest iteration is a 6.

Third number: will be either a 0 or 5. The 5 has a HR monitor, the 0 does not.

This means that the FR 230 & 235 are the same spec, same iteration, but the former doesn’t have a HR monitor and the latter does.

Forerunner is good, but also look at the Instinct.

I was looking at the tactical instinct 3. Seems more every day also

I have the mk1 very happy with it.

Doesn’t even need charging that often unless you’re using the GPS

Can’t fault my Apple Watch, which has the benefit of not being too obviously a sports / fitness watch.

But obviously needs the Apple ecosystem.

Yeah i havent sold my soul yet

I just upgraded to the Garmin Fenix 8 from a 7 Pro, expensive but amazing bits of kit and don’t have to charge it all the time so you get decent sleep data.

:point_up_2: what @bob1 said. I’m still on my Fenix 6 Pro but it’s an amazing bit of kit. Use it for all my outdoors activities as well as fitness, sleep tracking etc.

However, DC Rainmaker has suggested that the Enduro 3 Is a better Fénix than all the actual Fénix watches:

I do get tempted to move over to the Garmin watches
Think I’m too much of a Apple Fanboy to move away, that and the Ultra 3 is due out soon

That doesn’t have the OLED display or dive rating of the Fenix 8 and the OLED display is really good.

It is more akin to a Fenix 7 Pro on steroids. A great watch by all accounts, especially for people who will be away using GPS for 7 days+.

First run done with Runna i like it!

Unfortunatly it didnt track most the laps but had my old fit bit tracking too which linked to strava
