File Size Limit for Sharepoint

Does anyone know how much storage we get for Sharepoint? I’m trying to store a back up of our file server somewhere but it’s quite large (contains photos etc), so tried Google Drive but that is too small. I’ve used Teams to make a Sharepoint site for the sqn and have access to a document folder there but I worry it’s also too small.

I need about 400GB. Any ideas?

… yikes

We have about 20gb on sharepoint.

No idea about something 20x that size.

I cant imagine its refferenced anywhwre, but id bet if you did, someone woukd start asking Qs…

If you find out. Can you also find out.

Is there an individual file size limit.

Thinking about it, we could upload a lot more to SP as a sqn backup too.

You might be better off getting the CWC to buy a 1TB external hard drive. Not very expensive, and will be a lot quicker than trying to upload unless you’ve got gigabit internet!

The issue is I have a NAS box, which is great. It backs itself up, but what I want to do is store another backup somewhere off site, ideally cloud based but I could do it to my personal external hard drive if needed. Just in case of fire or theft and then we don’t lose decades of material, resources and photos.

Onedrive?

Google?

But the issue you may have with cloud services is dependent on what you are storing, you might be on a sticky wicket.

Eg aircadet material on a foregin server.

I dont know what our regs are.
Only can speak from work perspective.

Second NAS box held offsite with some remote sync software???

(essentially, your own cloud… but like, a little fluffy cloud - just for you and your stuff)

Google has a limit of 30gb.

Not sure about SharePoint, but pretty sure we have 1TB of OneDrive storage. Here’s how to check:

On the OneDrive website when signed in with your work or school account, select Settings > OneDrive settings > More settings > Storage metrics .

Ooh good shout. 1024gb of storage there, that might do it.

Although there is no way to do that easily. Hmm.

Just checked my sqn’s SharePoint site and it claims to have a substantially larger storage limit than OneDrive (25TB). I think there will be an individual file size limit though, so probably best not to just zip it and upload.

Suggest getting 2 USB3 drives and rotating them so one is always off site. Most NAS boxes have a USB3 port on them. The challenge is it probably has to be done manually (unless your NAS has a built in back up utility).

Otherwise upgrading capacity on Google Drive is actually pretty cheap.

Edited to add Google link (max file size 5TB)

On a strict reading of the rules, it’s not allowed in that all files should be held within the Bader system.

However Bader isn’t set up for this sort of task and it doesn’t specify backups in the data handling regs. Backup files should be encrypted anyway…

Also, can’t store images of cadets in OneDrive (unless its RAFAC), Google Docs, DropBox. Any other items that contain ANY other information about the cadets or staff can’t be stored there. Only within Bader suite of systems.

Can you link me to the policy please so I can review it?

[irony]
When I try to get a link to the doc on SPOL I get a ‘permission denied’ notice
[/irony]

It is the RAFAC Information Management Directive.

I’ve just read through the linked documents, and I can’t see any mention of photos specifically. Am I being thick?

I can see things related to personal data or anything official sensitive but not about images.

Taking photographs: data protection advice for schools | ICO

Info from the ICO would suggest they are personal data. Now we all have RAFAC OneDrive, I would suggest any pics taken of cadets should be held there, rather than in staff devices or outside of Bader.
