and i was going to put CFM (1 Bar) for the LoLz
Thereās a tradition (although I donāt believe it is documented anywhere as a rule) to put an asterisk for each bar after post-nominals for gallantry awards. However, I donāt think it applies to long service medals (otherwise Iād be VR***, which looks like an attempt to obscure a ride word).
Do any of the long service medals come with post nominals? The CFM certainly doesnāt lol
I donāt think they do anymore. The Territorial Decoration use to have the letters TD (itās predecessor the Volunteer decoration use to have the postnominals of VD
Interestingly volunteer reservist with ten years service backdated to 1999 can use the postnominals of VR so if you had ten years commission service before the commission change you technically get to use thatā¦ā¦
I love these sort of conversations, it feels like wilfsan hasnāt left us.
Prior to the introduction of the VRSM, officers and airmen of the reserve air forces received the same medal ā namely the Air Efficiency Award ā but only the officers could use the post-nominal ā AE.
At least the VR post-noms are for everyone.
Itās ok, journalists embedded with British forces in WW2 had a WC clasp on their epaulettes. Took the shine off holding the nominal rank of Captain!
Itās not really acceptable/in the spirit of the āVRā award that Full-Time Reserve Service (FTRS) qualifies.
Itās a full-time job (possible even on the same terms and pay as a regular ā Iāve done the āfull commitmentā FTRS stuff before) and therefore the antithesis of the volunteer reserve forces as experienced by every Part Time Volunteer Reservist (PTVR).
Whenever Iāve done FTRS service Iāve had to re-apply and re-attest to a PTVR position upon my return and thereās no automatic right or ability to slide back in.
The two things are completely different.
Fun fact, I did suggest an ASTRA that service instructors should receive the CFM and that it too should attract similar post nominals to help advertise the amazing commitment of our CFAVs.
Unfortunately, it was one of those things that was a much more difficult piece of work than might have initially been thought.
They 100% should, itās volunteering outside of the full time job, the same as I do with a CFC and is different to LSGC.
I agree they should⦠BUT is it not something to do with it being the same years they have counted towards their other medal? I know for example, you canāt count the same service periods for the VRSM and a regular medal, but you can off-set?
I think thatās what they try to argue, but it simply doesnāt stand up. If I was a policeman or a fireman and I volunteered for cadets in my spare time, Iād get the CFM as well as the police or fire brigade long service medal. Why should it be any different for service personnel? The same time periods simultaneously count towards campaign medals, the WSM, ACSM, etc, at the same time as LS&GC / VRSM.
