Email Signatures

Not sure it is a policy is it - the document on the Shooting Portal just says range control will accept digitally signed documents. Not that they must be digitally signed.

I suspect that somewhere in the CoC, someone got a bit enthusiastic or mis-read the full requirement.

Anyway, still the same admin for me - I had a dream the other day about the use of “repetitive” RSDs to cover multiple AR shoots - then I woke up!

Surely if the RSD is attached and follows the Bader email trail, then it should suffice :man_shrugging:t2:

I would have thought that too, but someone has clearly decided that there is a potential supervisory, legal or liability issue?

These things are normal reactive - I wonder if it’s linked to the live firing exercise where a solider was killed because of another soldier’s vision issues? I certainly remember reading about one fatal incident where supervision / planning, etc, seem to be lacking in some areas.

However, I don’t know if there are some range complexes where there is an “upload” option for RSDs / RAMs, etc? That said, you would have to be an “official” person with log-on credentials to do this, which would clearly leave an electronic “who did what / when” trail.

Wasn’t this the aim of eRASP, before it was killed?

You need to use google ultron. Used by nasa dont ya know

This was brought to my attention earlier so I’ve just been through the process and see the issue.

The process stops at one point as the RAFAC system blocks the use of the Adobe Sign In plugin by policy.

I’ll raise this with HQ and see if there is anything that can be done or we need to come up with another way of doing it.

The mac version of the free adobe software doesn’t appear to have the same functionality either to do the signing.

I’m just testing it on a Windows machine to see what happens on that.

It is only SPO that needs to do this though, not the RCO sending it to the SPO. This was seen as a win initially as some RAUs were plainly against digital signatures, always worth having a chat with your RAU to see what they accept. Most accept digital scribble signatures these days.

It seems this may not be possible on any platform unless we have an Adobe Sign license.

I shall keep digging.

Don’t forget the pronouns!!

Specifically forget the pronouns

Out of interest is the pronoun policy actually in an ACTO anywhere?

You’ve got ACTO 351 - Use of Email, but the only thing about signatures I can see in that is

C) Email etiquette. . . . 6) Always sign off your emails by making sure that recipients know who you are, especially if you are working from a group mailbox. If sending an email item to someone you do not know, include your surname, job title and, if appropriate, your telephone number and/or your web site address.

Don’t think it’s a RAFAC specific thing.

Try JSP 101 - Defense writing guide.

I doubt it has made it in to the JSP.
It’s just something that is becoming more common.

I’d be interested to know why you feel that way.

The whole point of it, is to normalise the idea of offering pronouns. There are people whose preferred pronouns are not what one might initially assume. If those people are the only ones listing their pronouns then it becomes a marker which singles someone out as ‘that person is different’. If loads of people are doing it - including those whose pronouns you might have assumed correctly - then it’s just the norm.

I just wish it became normal to put pronouns in so I know how to start my emails! Often emailing people who I’ve never met and only know them via email. For those people with first names that are not gender specific, it means I can’t start my emails with Sir or Ma’am as I’ve no clue if they are male, female, or something else!

Also, adding pronouns to a signature is effortless and has no downsides as far as I can see. Only upsides.

My bugbear and it’s more of a work thing: signatures as a png or jpg so can’t copy the phone number into my phone or contacts app!

That should be illegal. Takes up loads more storage room than text, and often doesn’t format itself correctly on mobile!!!

But… but… think of all those electrons you’re inconveniencing thanks to the extra ~20 bytes

If someone wishes to then they are more than welcome to.

Personally i do not sign up to gender politics so make the personal decision to stay out of the pronoun game.

If anyone missgenders me (which has happened before) i kindly inform them of their mistake (if i even care to) and carry on with my life.

Sir/maam works just fine for all occasions
