EAW Concept for MTP Patches with Sqn No

Or just ditch sqn numbers all together as totally superfluous?

if producing them is going to be ridiculously expensive or infuriatingly unreliable, then yes.

however, if as is suggested above, the current cost of each Sqn number badge is a mighty 10p, i think its unlikely that even the famed MOD procurement process could raise it to the price that is unaffordable.

Do the maths. It’s hardly worth the effort.

New cadets PA * ~900 units * 10p
Of that, 4% profit PA. For all that hassle.

No one is interested in it.

I think it looks good. I think most people agree that it’s not strictly necessary, but then you could say the same about some of the other badges that the ACO uses.

I like the idea of the ATC brassard badge being used and perhaps one of our CCF colleagues could advise, do the CCF use their school identifier on No 3 uniform and if so, where? I know the school identifier looks much like our brassard badge and I think the CCF uses it in the same place on a brassard on their No 2s, but I can’t recall what they have on No 3s.

I’m not convinced, but I do think that it’s more useful than giving them TRFs.

Why not just wear the blue brassard?

Its blue. Its got all the stuff on. Every Cadet has 1. Saves cost.

two problems - firstly the blue brazzard, being a brazzard, needs to hang off an epaulette. which PCS and CS95 don’t have. and secondly, if its being used in the field it’ll get scuffed/wrecked/shagged out. at which point it stops being cheaper, because everyone needs two.

don’t we still hang silver band badges off them as well? which may inhibit their practicality somewhat…

Sew a button on?

Good points though.

Why not the exact same/similar set up of the brassard on the panel? Take off the union jack, the Number Badge and the Blue “Air Training Corps” and the classification.
I like how the original idea missed out that little mudflap badge…

A brassard panel. Done. take the top 3 badges of the brassard. Stick it on the panel.

I hate those damn panels. And the velcro. And the useless little crap pockets that cant carry anything.

Brassards do look stupid on PCS though as they just get stretched over the pocket.

Why would you take the union flag off? It is on the left plate which still leaves the right free.

We (ACF) use the right blanking plate instead of the brassard, and use the left for county flashes or Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet badges.

Do the RAF wear Sqn numbers anywhere on their uniforms?..

No.

Perry’s right - why would we need to in CS95\MTP?

The RAF Regiment have the mudguard, I think that’s equivalent to the squadron number. Also, I think EAW numbers are on blanking plates, definitely seen one on RAF News on website today

Not strictly true, most FUs have Sqn flashes/badges these days approved and worn on blanking panels of mtp.

Why not the sqn number and then this mudflap?

Exactly the same set up of the brassard but on the panel.
Its blue.
It quite clearly labels you so no confusion to to ACF, CCF etc.
The panel can been taken off when your “tactical”.
Every sqn already has a big stash of these badges.

Job done. Questions or comebacks?

Works for me.

Does beg the question of whether we then go the whole hog and just recreate the brassard qual badges and all

Very true. But as posted before the shiny metal badges etc. And its a lot smaller than a brassard.

I would go for the sqn no. the ATC mudflap, and keep it at that. Maybe the classification badge and the marksman badge.

Being on 1 panel, can easily transfer to the Smock…and your UBACS…

No. it goes against the no more than 4 badges policy and would be too ACF. (Their panels look ridiculous and most be evil to sew.)

In what way do they look ridiculous? Given the option of blanking plate or badges for wearing qual badges I think the blanking plate looks much neater.

I don’t believe they are evil to sew at all. Some people appear to have kittens at the though of sewing through velcro but I just us a thimble…

If I were sewing by hand I wouldn’t even go through the velcro. I’d simply pick up stitches through the MTP fabric only.

They just look way too crowded IMO. But I used to think that about your brassards as well, you just have a lot more badges than we do, and it seems that you can put different levels of badges for the same thing in ACF policy, whereas our policy generaly favours superceding.
And it is a right PITA sewing on the panels, not only the force required, but the velcro hooks onto the thread as you pull it round and helps snap it. I much prefer machine sewing stuff onto it. (Even that took my mum’s industrial old school Singer.)
