Are DPM Rank slides allowed to be worn by cadet NCOs?
Nope. By no-one.
I personally like them. There’s nothing in the dress regs saying you can’t wear them (but then again not saying you can :S). I don’t really understand why they would ban them. For example if you where sneaking around a wooded/grassland area you don’t really want obvious blue rank slides with shiny sliver thread on them giving away your position, and we to be honest I like my rank and don’t want to take it off.
I’ve seen staff and other cadets from another SQN wearing them but no one from my SQN (other than me owns a pair). For me it makes perfect sense for them to allow them, it’s not as if anything bad is going come from it, maybe apart from some cadets not calling NCOs by their ranks because they might not see the rank slide, although its really not that hard to see them from close(ish) up.
Yes there is. Chap 4 to AP1358C states only ‘rank badges as issued’ can be worn on No.3 (DPM) uniform. OG and DPM rank slides are not ‘as issued’. CRO’s have also ordered that OG & DPM rank slides are not to be worn with No.3 dress.
Why not? You know who you are and (I assume) so do other cadets on your Sqn. Why do you feel that you NEED to wear rank slides in the field?
They are wrong to do so.
Sometimes, ‘sense’ and ‘regulations’ are not compatible.

As Stated you need to read AP1385c and AP1385 neither the ACO or the mainstream RAf are to wear green/Olive/MTP rank slides (with a few exceptions).
dont want your silver stripes to give you away in the field…you can either remove the tapes, turn it around or as its a field type actity try a simple camouflage job, a simple leaf should do it.

Rank Slides are not allowed to be worn on CS95’s except for the Blue Tabs.
But i dont understand how you can buy them :?
You go to Rip Off Direct’s website and order them!
If you mean you don’t understand why you can buy them, I guess it’s because outlets such as Ripoff Direct know that there are enough Ws around in the organisation who actually feel they need them!
Sorry for the sarcasm by the way - lowest form of wit, I know!
Well, in the case of Cpl/Sgt/FS-CSgt-SSgt tapes* there are people who are allowed to wear them, just not in our organisation.
*Not including “ATC” embroidered ones
Tbf, the RAF does keep completely changing its mind on ‘low vis’ rank badges. I kind of admire the ACO’s consistency.
Without starting a debate on CIs in CS95, Rank slides stating CI are helpful when you are sent on a course in CS95 wearing a cadet beret as a CI!
Why would a CI wear a cadet beret? OK, I can just about see the logic of wearing combats on occasions, but absolutely no reason for a beret! If a CI is that desperate to wear a uniform, then become uniformed adult staff!!

Nijmegen + RAF 2 day march…enough said?

Please don’t be arrogant. A simple ‘they wear them when part of an ATC Team on the Nijmegen Marches’ would be sufficient. Actually, I think CI bandies wear cadet headdress when performing too. However, notwithstanding these examples, my personal opinion is that it is wrong and it should not happen.
The RAF has always said ble slides are to be worn even in the field unless you are RAF Reg, TSW, TCW that kind of thing

Nope. They changed it a few years ago to: low vis on ops. Then it changed to ‘appropriate colour to uniform worn’, ie: DPM with DPM, blue with blue. Then PCS came out and everyone was told it was a combat uniform without compromise and it had to be worn with low vis slides, no stable belts and untucked. Then the Olympics happened and they did a total U-turn.
I left just before the olympics and with 3 tours of Afghan and 2 in Iraq and we had to wear blue tabs all the time not once were we allowed to wear any other type people used to try but very rarely did they get away with it.
I can think of a few reasons why your experience may differ, but the flip flopping did happen (and probably will again).
Dont get me wrong we hated it a nice blue square is not what you need on ops rght on your chest…
I think you will find that, whilst on ops, dpm rank slides are to be worn on RAF uniform, when back at home station, then you revert back to Blue ones, this was explained as the only way, both at RAF Leuchars (my last unit) and RAF Akrotiri (my current unit), however, again its how well it is enforced that really counts!!
i personally belive the aco should be allowed to wear dpm, as they should have the correct chest and arm flashes on their uniforms!! but thats my own humble one!
The chances of that being allowed are next to nothing as we keep getting reminded by the big wigs we are not a green organization (which I belive its a cop out) I doubt they will ever change that in the AP
