Decorating the office

Sqn office is currently very dull so we’re thinking about having a bit of a decorate.

Any ideas for what to put up? We’re currently thinking along the lines of wooden RAF Sqn plaques, model aeroplanes, and old camp/unit photos. All ideas welcomed!

Any commendations given to Staff/Cdts eg. Lord Lieutenants Commendation, AOCs Commendation etc

A picture of the OC, OC Wing, RC, Cmdt, @Cab, CAS and the King. All nicely in order!

(That is a joke, please don’t do this)

The nicest offices I’ve been in have been pretty simple. Painted nicely, with a couple of photos of cadets doing various things. Plus the mandatory safety posters too…

I forgot you’d been to my office

To be fair you missed out the CDS. Always good to have the Andrew represented.

I don’t have SecDef on my wall though, usually by the time RFCA have got round to fixing a picture hook there’s been a Cabinet reshuffle.

On a dartboard?

I’ve done a “sqn execs” in frames display with sector commander, wing commander, regional commandant, and CAC, with the king’s portrait above.

Looks really nice and I constantly see cadets giving it the once over to refresh on who’s who.

I also turned my office into a dual-purpose meeting and welfare chat room, so it now has some cool heritage displayed, including a costly but worth it framing of a very old and tatty ensign (attempting to attach an image below, but it’s on our website under “facilities” if not).

That’s pretty much what I had in mind - looks great!

That looks suspiciously like my old COs office… If you didn’t have your own number as your name I would be very confused.

Just had a look, you have a very decent looking JCC!

Certainly a lot brighter and smarter than ours!

I do like this (I like the idea of a ‘shared’ space but my office is more or less a converted cupboard so we’d not be able to use it that way).

Did the furniture come with the JCC or is it on separate inventory?

We’re very lucky.

@Horriblelittletechie may recognise the room (although I can’t say how it once looked) because my squadron profited from the demise of another.

We were always based at BAE Systems in Brough (hence the unusual name, which had developed over time), but we lost our accn during the pandemic.

872 (Hull West) folded and we managed to grab the space moments before it was lost to the Army Reserve.

Incredibly fortunate.

In my first office I already had some obligatory pictures of planes (the same ones every Squadron seems to have) plus a picture of bomber Harris, I never really changed that.

At my second unit I got myself a couple of nice canvasses aviation themed, left them behind when I moved out, dunno if they still have them.

I have some ancient health and safety notices a previous occupant glued to notice boards, and a faded picture of Her Majesty I can’t bring myself to take down.

What I’d like is a wipe board for my to do list!

Either they have a massive storage unit out the back with all the old stuff in it, or it’s the one squadron that doesn’t hoard stuff!
