Very kind of you to say. The tidy makes me happy.

I have been prosecuting hoarded equipment with extreme prejudice and being more efficient with the space we have.
Something being old is not the same as something having value (I’m happy to spend money preserving the latter), so we worked our way around the unit and the clear-out is still going. It’s made a huge difference.

Getting things on the wall also helps free-up space, and there’s not so much value in keeping stuff if it’s not accessible to the cadets. Next job is digitising the heritage to get it on the website.

I did try to get a storage unit, but I was advised why it isn’t recommended, so again, making shelving more efficient etc is the way to go.
I’m also trying to drive down the amount of kit we have on standby, though I’m obviously learning that each trip to parent stores costs me a day of leave, so having spare kit has value.

Lots of gear was stuck in an old RFCA building set for demolition. I salvaged what I could reasonably utilise / fit in my corsa and then let the contracted scrappers save me a mammoth task.

We had to return an old ejector seat to RAF Leeming but, if I’m honest, it wouldn’t even stand unaided. That thing had been with the unit since before I was a cadet here, so it was best to just be rid of it.

I’ve spent a fair bit of cash making the JCC feel like a home, and I think it’s one of the things that has had a really good impact — I appreciate how fortunate I am to be able to enact this particular vision in such a good facility.

I took over a squadron a few years back (around 2013) which still had 3 over head projectors in the stores. Civ Com weren’t happy wirh I told them they had been scrapped as they ‘might have come in useful’ for something. I pointed out the current door wedges worked just fine.

Have a look in your stores first if you haven’t recently, its amazing what you find that has been gifted over the years and forgotten about
