Decent DTE

Has anyone got the gen on any decent DTE sites for cadet use.

Im ideally after…

Hard accom for 60 to 100.
An area (can be small) for FT.
A nearby or onsite barrack range would be ideal.
For a bonus has an armory.

Happy to take PMs if people dont want to publicise their little known gems.

Location not an issue. Happy to travel UK wide for the right site.

Alternatively has anyone got something non dte they use that meets the above… obviously without the barrack range etc.

Thanks.

Have a look at:
Swynnerton Training Camp
Nesscliff Training Camp

Both have areas you can use for FT, more than enough accommodation and armouries.

Swynnerton does have a range but it’s a Army 1908 so U/S, both do have DCCT’s though. Also you’re not too far from RAF Shawbury or Cosford both with barrack ranges.

Altar Camp is worth a look too, has all of the above expect it’s all long ranges but you can fire at 25m on a few of them.

Not used it for a while but Crowborough has everything on your list.

Wyke Regis has everything except any fieldcraft area. It might have them but I’ve never used it for that so don’t know.

Was going to say the same. It’s not the nicest, but meets the criteria assuming you have minibuses to ferry cadets from the camp into Pippingford Park!

Jersey Camp on the IoW is a great camp, with plenty of accommodation, range, armoury and a decent size training area.

Also, wouldn’t Minley/Aldershot area not tick the boxes too? Not really been to either personally.

I think “decent” and “DTE” generally don’t fit together in a sentence!

But, based on what you said, Altcar and Nesscliffe would definitely fit the bill.

Is the mock airfield at Spadeadam bookable?

An alternative, any scout activity centre (or other scout site). Any run by Scout Adventures will be expensive, but there are loads that are run independantly by scout groups, districts or counties.

They will most likely give us a discount as a youth organisation, and typically already have all the kit (and instructors) to run a range of AT activities. You then just have to work with them on how to deliver the “military side”.

Be curious about what they will/won’t allow on their sites. Appreciate it will vary from district to district.

Would need TOPL

Yep, will vary from site to site and how happy the person you’re talk to is on that day, but no chance of getting bumped by a higher priority user.

Our local sites never caused any issues with any Fieldcraft/Bivvying.

Never bothered with TOPL for them, we clearly had permission as we had booked it!

Did you find the downed heli behind the FIBUA area? Great for a Crash / First Aid Ex.

Is there a central list of these?
