Decent DTE

They make it surprisingly hard to find - I guess because local groups know their local sites.

Best I can find:

+1 for Swynny. I think it’s Shawbury people go to from there for shooting? Training area is sizeable for the scale required and with lots of options, accommodation is plentiful and better than many places (loads of sockets, common rooms, etc).

Wyke was mentioned, there’s a range and armoury at Chickerell and some open land that low level FT skills training can happen, but not much use for exercises. There is more land around the range that I think is better, but I don’t actually know if you’re allowed to FT on it as I’ve not concerned myself with that when at the camp.

There’s not much in it between Cosford and Shawbury from Swyn

Catterick Barracks ticks your boxes. I’ve been there for a week long “greens” camp and worked well.

I’ve also heard of ppl ising Sennybridge but not sure about the Range situation

Well Scout Adventures is pretty easy, scoutadventures.org.uk/, but that is their for-profit arm.
For the other sites, I’m afraid not other that campsite.directory that WestlandScout has linked.

What about Beckingham? Accommodation, training area and ranges.

If anyone can convince Lynpstone to do accommodation, they have the rest too.

There’s also the three camps at STANTA, although, I’m not sure where you’d shoot, Honington?

I second Longmoor. Consider Bodney (and nearby areas / camps, too).

I know it doesn’t give anecdotal advice but JSP 907 Pt 2, available on SP, lists the entire Defence Training & Evaluation Estate, including numbers each location can accommodate, facilities (messing, magazines, armouries, etc).

I was told the RN has quite a lot of facilities which they don’t use as much. But never tried to book one.

I used HMS Bristol back in the day, shame that’s gone.

Swynnerton has a 1911 range, armoury, DCCT and even a CQB range.

Yup, but the range is out of use still.

We love Bramley and use it a lot, but I’ve never tried booking the (ACF) Cadet Training Centre accommodation. It must be possible… We just basha up as it’s usually for one night. We used to use the buildings as a wet weather fallback but almost all are now ‘no sleeping’ which is irritating as they used to be designated ‘stone tents’.

For now…:eyes::eyes:

Are there any rumours on plans to replace it?!

Talk of a land ship …i.e. porta cabins with accom and class rooms

Kind of defeats the point imo, I wouldn’t travel down for that.

The experience of being on the ship was a large part of the camp.

Its convenient for me…but get your point.

They’d be better off putting the money into other already existing facilities imo

If that was the alternative, you’d be better off with the amazing sea cadet accommodation they have down at HMS Raleigh.
