Death of HM Queen Elizabeth II

Did anyone ever meet her and/or have tales of visits? I know she made it to a few events over the years and met a number of cadets and CFAV.

I unfortunately never did - or Charles. I have met Prince Edward though

Never met. But did a guard of honour-esque when she turned up at RAF Cosford back in 2012. There’s a video of very fresh faced me saluting her car on YouTube somewhere.

I also remember standing on the street waving a flag like a lunatic when she came through my hometown when I was a lot younger. Must have been about 3/4 so this was '96/97.

Have met Philip at an Air League event, and briefly crossed paths with William when he was in his RAF stint.

Never got to meet The Boss, always hoped for a Buck House Garden Party invite, but alas.

Harry came and chatted to us doing drill on camp whilst he was stationed at Cranditz.

Told us off for calling him Sir and insisted on Harry. Which was about surreal

Met Philip at my Gold award presentation. Cheeky ■■■■■■ deliberately scuffed my shoes as they were shinier then his.

Met Anne at my Call ceremony. Lovely down to earth person who inherited her father’s sense of humour.

Never had the honour to meet QE2 but my wife’s choir sang for her often at state dinners.

A post was merged into an existing topic: September 2022 Stop Order

Said hello to him in the mess at Shawbury once and he was the same.

Saw a few of the royals at a garden party once but never pushed forward to talk.

Yes, but the normal route and timings of the Royal Train aren’t published in advance.

I’m going down Tuesday evening, hoping to get somewhere to see the carriage from Buckingham Palace to Westminster on Wednesday (going about 4am to try and get a spot, but understand that may to too late already). Then I am hoping to see HM in state on Thursday. I have an open return ticket but not booked any accom for the Thursday PM and I’ll wait in line as long as it takes.

To add I’m going in mufti but with beret and miniatures - don’t fancy standing around for 18 hours in 1s.

Here’s a thought I had last night - is the RAF Regiment’s ceremonial unit called the King’s Colour Squadron now? There don’t seem to be any hits for that name on Google besides, seemingly, a business profile.

Good call. Must be.

Would they not need a new color form the King, the current color is from the Queen

I guess theres scope for them to be rebranded the Queen Elizabeth Squadron of the Royal Air Force Regiment…but that is the stretch and id expect it to be named the Kings Colour Sqn

This is based on the Army having the Kings Own Regiment during QE2 reign

Well the RAF colour has EIIR in the middle of it. I guess majority of colours will need replacing depending on crown choice and if they have EIIR embroided on them which a majority will.

But i could go on about colours/standards/banners forever…

I wondered if it would stay QCS the same way that kings Troop RHA never changed.

It’s upto the Boss I suppose.

Well its first name was the Kings Guard of the Royal Air Force, didnt become QCS until the 60s

Would it be due to how it was formed / how the naming convention goes?

Kings Troop was set up by the King, QCS is named after the colour.

Yeah, that’s the thing - since it’s a relatively new unit I’m not actually sure if it’s one of the ones named after a specific monarch or one of the ones named after the current monarch.

For the Woodentops the Queen’s Guard is now the King’s Guard - except the Queen’s Company Grenadier Guards will stay as the Queen’s Coy until after the funeral, at which point they will become the king’s Coy.

Probably, but it’s in the gift of the Sovereign…
