Coronavirus: what happens next!

If we’re forced to close there won’t be any alternatives, everything else will be closed too.

Quite possibly. But if our hands are tied then our hands are tied.

Well, online gaming would be a big one for most.

They would just drift off, into teenager land…

Maybe.

I like the entrepreneurial spirit

People driving 60 miles to probably pay at least a quid to spend a penny. Madness.

Our hand will be forced ref closing squadrons if feeder schools close. If kids can’t go to school they can’t do anything else.
As for a “pause” if that’s how HQAC decide to go, then that’s what they’ll do. What happens after may achieve what they’ve been desperate to do for a number of years … get rid of squadrons.

Our WWO has just binned a drill course in two weeks time due to the virus.

(Although he hasn’t run one for about three years so maybe it’s just convenient)

Also had an email from OC Wg this morning saying:

  • Squadrons/units are to continue to operate as normal but sqn cdrs should only consider a closure if a cadet or CFAV tests positive and when advised by the PHA or NHS that a closure was necessary.
  • RAFAC members (permanent staff, CFAV and cadets) should self-isolate if told to by the NHS or PHA. If told to self-isolate the HQ or sqn should remain open and operate as normal (subject to bullet one above).
  • Collective participation in events should continue until directed otherwise – this will be reviewed on a rolling basis as the outbreak continues and a decision to cancel or cease will be by COS RAFAC or Rgnl Cmdts.
  • Advice on how to deal with the virus in terms of hygiene – washing hands etc – will be available to all units via internal and external platforms – including Bader, Cadet Portal, the national website www.raf.mod.uk/aircadets.
  • Overseas exchanges and trips – each to be assessed individually and the risks considered in line with MOD/RAF, PHA, NHS and Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advice. Staff and cadets are not to travel without the express authority of Rgnl Comdt/COS RAFAC .
  • WExOs are to notify RHQ and HQAC (COS) of any sqn closures directed by PHA/NHS.
  • Station visits – be prepared for RAF stations with a vital operational role to temporarily stop cadet activities on bases.
  • Permanent staff – be prepared to work from home.

Good to know the party line is consistent…

Interestingly the Irish have just closed all Schools until the end of the Month. They have also banned gatherings above 500 people and gatherings of more than 100 people in Church.

Ooooh, I hope they cancel church nationally.

My Wg cdr cancelled a big event this weekend.

Warma is approaching soon…I wonder what will happen to that

Lots of countries are not letting their service personnel and reservists from travelling ever seas without a very good reason. Sweden need the OK from a 2 star for over seas travel.

Could be interesting to see what will happen with IACE and overseas camps

Government have just advised against overseas school trips. Fairly confident HQAC will follow this with regards to cadet activities and bin them off…that’s my personal opinion though.

They probably will, but there’s the potential for reversal before summer.

Rammstein happens in a couple of weeks according to Sharepoint

At least the Govt has been more measured than some and not gone mental with it. I thought they might feel pressurised by the media after Eire and Scotland … thankfully not.

Wrong sort of Rammstein for my interest. Obviously anything Easter is affected.

Both are pretty awesome!

Shutting the schools is absolutely the right response. Schools are filth holes with inadequate hand washing facilities.

You’re right - but shutting them too early is a dangerous game, in effect completely ruins the point of it. Give it a week or so and I think they’ll be starting to think about shutting down schools - whether RAFAC units follow through is another matter but I think they should mirror the standing of educational establishments given their ‘clientele’ is the same.
