Does it matter if HQAC etc are at work? They have lost their customer base … us.
It’s probably the happiest they have ever been
Think of that admin backlog that’s going to be cleared
Fat chance. The problem with our admin trail is that it’s all paper based, can’t deal with paper work working remotely from home.
Several places I’ve worked you’d struggle to take paperwork home because of security issues.
If a call for volunteers goes out I would answer it in a heartbeat.
To be honest, I want to help. At the moment being sat at home doing my day job feels redundant and stupid. I am ready and waiting.
Same where everything is slowing down come next Weds I wont have an awful lot to do
Great - I wonder what happens to those mid course when the suspension was announced ?
The same as the Sea Cadets who are still out sailing… Continue and finish the course?
Many of us would.
@Virgil How would your employer feel about it? You are contracted to them.
If it got to the point where the armed forces were asking for people to volunteer, the engine will have fallen out never mind the wheels falling off.
I think if news programmes and websites were restricted we would a lot calmer than we seem to be. When you look at the BBC you could swap Coronavirus with Brexit and it would be the same look. Similarly with papers. All we are getting are the cod experts and hacks with titles like health correspondent, instead of Brexit/Europe.
Oh yes and do something about SM to stop that creating it’s own little bubble of confusion.
The Forces and Reserves hve already been asking for volunteers. And there’s talk of compulsory Call ups.
Regular training exercises were already stopped and people being brought back to the U.K… I don’t see why you lot and the sea cadets or any other youth organisation haven’t stopped everything yet?
It’s really not difficult to grasp?
Fairbourne was called off on Tuesday.
…we have?
It’s done now. Tedious argument over. Crack on with new stuff.
Not saying Armed Forces necessarily @Teflon - just in general.
You don’t know me, but if you did you would know that I am not panicking or flapping because of what they say on the news or SM. I watch or listen to the daily briefing, I study the figures and advice on the .gov sites, keep abreast of the numbers abroad and the markets. Beyond that, everything is noise.
I come from a family of public servants - I am the black sheep so to speak working in the private sector. For me, when what I consider to be an all hands at the pumps situation is occurring I just have a innate desire to be being useful to my fellow man.
My employer would understand, I am high enough in my company that the CEO knows me personally and the conversation has been had. A week or so from now if the trajectory continues I won’t have a lot to do, certainly not anything that one of my subords couldn’t handle.
If this recession bites then in some regards it would a brucey bonus if my being able to volunteer in turn protected the employment of someone else.
But certainly I can’t just chip off and find somewhere to be useful - a general call would have to happen.
So I wait and it will either come or it won’t. In the mean time I carry on carrying on.
What shouldn’t be difficult to grasp is we’ve told you that we have stopped.
Someone further up commented on some had continued. But again better late than never.
I saw talk of some units apparently ignoring the stop notice as it was sent on social media and not by email. Hopefully those people have been firmly re-educated now!
For those who think that the official RAFAC facebook and instagram accounts aren’t legitimate paths for this message, the same message is on the HQAC SharePoint announcement page. If they are still waiting for a personal email from their chain of command then they are idiots, but that probably should be sent anyway to maximise coverage.
While I applaud your attitude. I am the completely the same. But Unless you have medical or specialist training best keep out the way until there’s a request for volunteers, even still, be wary.
Remember the golden rule of any incident is scene safety, that’s for yourself above all.
Certainly try and help local community or elderly neighbours but take the right precautions.
I don’t know if the flapping comment was directed at me, but as I don’t have social media, I take my information from the appropriate sources, I’m not flapping in the slightest, I’ve been following this since the outbreak in China and could see this happening.
Apparently the current social media trend of military convoys with scaremongering? This is fake news and is returning troops from exercise joint warrior. Training and exercises have stopped and people being brought back, probably to consolidate and put together a plan of action and get a rough idea of what resources we can use.
While this situation certainly isn’t one to flap and bulk buy toilet roll and fray bentos pies. It’s definately one not to be taken lightly and should be dealt with some seriousness.
