Now I’m with you.
Yeah, clever.
Now I’m with you.
Yeah, clever.
We’ve had to have climatic injuries as part of all our RAs since before Covid!
Meanwhile some events for tomorrow self approved in June are still approved and in-reviewed
Can we get a generic one made then.
Climate is climate afyer all
We’ve got a Generic heat one now and my reading of what has come down in our Wing is that we will get a cold one later in the year.
It’s hot, drink up
It’s cold, still drink but put on a cardigan
The LaSER standard CI RA para, authored (I believe) by the TSA, which is in all of our outside activities 5010C’s, covers heat and cold injuries and has been used for some years now and was recently updated with some minor upgrades re Covid inoculations and Sickle Cell.
Yep, I really don’t understand the addition of Sickle Cell. seems to be risk assessing for no reason.
Iirc it was discovered as a risk factor in a few deaths that occurred in Army training in Wales, so it’s now a blanket MoD thing.
And herein lies an issue. We are risk assessing for something that may not even be an issue for our event.
The guidance on Sickle Cell should be included in ACP5, not just an extra bit for an RA that people will end up ignoring.
A couple of SAS wannabes, but what would they know about about the weather, heat, etc. Probably a lot more than many of us
Whilst the majority of CFAVs will do things by the book, there are always the odd ones who push it to the extremes, don’t follow protocols.
I would rather get used to complete a form, add it to every event, than have to stand up in an inquiry and be left out to dry by CoC for not following the rules.
If I remember my haematology correctly, those with Sickle cell disease have a tendency to clot more easily therefore dehydration maybe more of a risk to them.
Thats great, and if I have any personel on an activity with Sickle Cell, then I’ll discuss that medical issue directly with them and add dynamically to my rick assessment, just as i would any other condition.
We aren’t being mandated to add bits to the RA for other illnesses so why this?
Absolutely correct - I would approach this issue in the same way I approach ANY additional medical need highlighted on the consent forms - and that little “medical” need flag on SMS.
Management of said risks are HUGELY dependent on effective communication with the cadet (or CFAV) themselves (or their parents) and their knowledge of managing their medication/condition whilst undertaking the activity concerned. BUT - there are instances and examples where we’re talking unknowns…
I’ve been on the bad end of this previously - the side effects of some epilepsy medication I had to take were manageable on a day to day basis. But drop me in an remote/AT environment and I struggled to maintain and manage my hydration levels. It was a very niche medication and the side effects weren’t actually anticipated by me OR my GP (who was well aware of my extra curricular stuff!). It was only when I was admitted to hospital that the specialist went put 2 and 2 together and recommended a switch in my medication.
Another example where RAs are getting a little silly are the mandated/expected “covid controls” line where we are still expected to list covid controls (including “if participant is showing signs and symptoms of covid they should not attend the event”) - but not for any of the other notifiable communicable diseases - some of which are much, much worse than covid!!!
There weren’t 1330 new cholera cases yesterday.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if when you moused over that it told you what the condition(s) is(are)?
Nope - but there were 113 food poisoning cases - and we don’t explicitly ask them to stay and home and not bring their vomiting and/or diarrhea away with them to share around. Nor do we ask the 11 Measles, 74 TB cases or 663 Scarlet Fever outbreaks to stay away.
But, we are moving away from climatic injuries…
Been told by a road marching type that day 2 is cancelled for the RAFAC…not seen anything official though
I’ve not seen anything. All I’ve seen is that tomorrow, the now second day, all marching will stop at 1200hrs for everyone.
How does that work? I’ve been in around then on a VERY good day. But we were FAST.
