Civ Com - Enhanced DBS Check

Sorry, come again… this sounds like stupidity.

Where are you? Was this an IBN or just some random email from a perm?

Unless the IBN is updated that’s surely nonsense.

Nothing to this effect here mercifully.

This sounds rediculous. None of that was mentioned in the initial IBN. I’m not doubting that’s what you’ve been told though.

I can kind of understand OCs needing to email a declaration to say they’ve seen the ID, but having to scan it and send it over is silly. The whole point is that OCs are doing the checking…

The IBN needs to be reissued of this has changed, rather than some WHQs deciding to drip feed new information out!

Or WHQs added their own instructions

Not really - when the Oc signs the paperwork on the form, they are attesting that they have seen the ID.

Ah, I wasn’t aware of that bit. (I’ve not done it.) If the OC is signing a form them selves then yeah, no real need to email WHQ at all I guess!

There isn’t a form for CivCom though as it’s all electronic

There is a form for CFAV though and no ID copies are sent.

There is a form for creating civ com records on SMS. Although not needed if they are signing up electronically.

If you’re doing their DBS on paper, then it’s the same form as for CFAV.

No idea what if anything the OC needs to do if the DBS is being done electronically though. Presumably someone has to attest that the original documents have been seen though?

might want to read ibn24

Have just done so, very informative.

Mine are doing theirs on paper, since I had already got ahead of the game by requesting the DBS paperwork before the IBN had come out. Nothing lost by me doing so as after the IBN came out, my WHQ decided to do them on paper anyway

Sigh

So the cost then comes from Public Funds rather than Non Public Funds.

Is this how WHQ staff get off, deliberately not following National policy?

Surely that’s a misuse of Public Funds?

Not really. Before this all came about some civ com members were getting DBS’ed anyway.

Also I think what @Tango_Foxtrot is referring to is the fact the their WHQ started the process before the IBN came out too. This is the same in my wing. We had an email from OC wing saying something to the effect of ‘Soon all civ com will need a DBS, so I’m getting WHQ to post blank forms out to you’. This was way before the IBN.

I don’t know about your wing but I took photos of mine and emailed them to my OC who then eventually got round to sending my forms off and forwarding the pics of my ID. OC saw my genuine copies and was happy with them.

Interesting enough I was doing exactly this before hand with the paper copies. Admin staff in WHQ prefer it as it makes their lives easier, we don’t get returned forms so it works out quicker. Scanning forms for the eDBS is no extra burden.

The only issue with the eDBS system is that the confirmation emails often get lost in all the myriad of other emails regarding Bader announcements, camps, Cyprus reply-alls, courses etc. Otherwise no real change 🤷

You still get a certificate through the post and you only need to keep an eye on emails for a few days after the person clicks “go”. I get eDBS certificates after about a week and the people doing the admin know before that. I’ve forgotten I’ve sent paper versions to Wing and the cert is a surprise, as they take so long.

As an OC just received an update from the Corps Chair on this.

Think it’s gone Corps wide - those without are now suspended and are either to get up to date or be removed

New members have one month to get clearance.

And DBS certificates are being received within days if not hours. Please, please, please implement this for CFAVs

It is coming our way too AFAIK.
