I think the reference was to not hearing about the DBS process and being told not to contact above WHQ.
It’s a step in the right direction regardless of the way it’s communicated. Sending them to Wing adds at least a week to the process and then add the getting lost in the post factor of anything coming or from Wing. Even sending them “signed for” makes no difference to things being lost by Wing.
Has anyone managed to start the electronic DBS process for their Civilian Committee members yet? I have been told to only send in paper applications for them at the moment.
It is a great idea, just need to be extended to everyone not just when it suits. Although maybe WSO just get out and do checks not just use OCs as cannon fodder to prevent some folk not going F2F. Sorry for whinge but our wing is like fort knox but OCs feel like they are expected to F2F cadets, parents, staff civ com. Personally I will turn away anyone who hasn’t contacted in advance and that includes the Air Comm.
It’s not a question of ‘when it suits’, it is a question of who owns the DBS process:
- Administration of Civ Comm DBS does not sit with MOD and is single-service managed through the RAFAC - which allows us to now use the electronic process for new civ comm members.
- Administration of CFAV sits with MOD and it is their process - the RAFAC has no control and little influence over how it is administrated. 1* representation is constantly being made at MOD main building about the need to move to electronic methods, but that hasn’t been authorised at MOD yet - probably because it is linked to CS FTE posts at wherever DBS is managed these days.
The RAFAC isn’t out to get you or deliberately make your life harder as a CFAV - as an MOD CF, we are sometimes constrained by their rules and requirements and all we can do is try and influence upwards. IMHO, the electronic approach for our committee will be used as case study with MOD to prove that it can be done and bring to light the considerable benefits.
I think you missed what @WellIbedammed was on about. Earlier in this thread I mentioned that in LaSER we now send DBSs direct to DBS rather than WHQ.
I think they were referring to that In his reply to Teflon.
Currently it seems that only LaSER have seen this change though, thus, needs to be extended to everyone.
Whilst not against the idea in theory, our Wing HQ acts as a final set of eyes before sending to CH.
Does this waste time? You’ll be surprised on what they pick up before sending off.
And what about the wasted time and effort at CH to review and pick up stupid errors
So we are two organisations but OCs have to do CivComm and check CFAV prior to sending to WHQ because they dont have enough paid time to sort the errors, if it’s good for the goose it should be good for the gander, either trust OCs or don’t. Plus my point is OCs are exposed to everyone whilst certain parts of RAFAC hide behind their computers so to reduce their F2F stating COVID19 is still rife. Fortunately I have a small Civ Comm so no plans to increase it so will make more time fir actual cadet involvement.
There is nothing difficult checking DBS. I have photocopies of the form which I ask people to fill out, make sure it’s OK and off it goes. Never had one sent back.
The problem with DBS is the MoD at Cheadle Hume and to some extent WHQs. Thus is and will be the problem with eDBS. The ones I have done require someone checking the applicants docs and issuing a link, who does this will be fought over and I can’t see it being squadron based, to protect jobs and make something that should be really straightforward, typically awkward.
Has anyone has any experience of any Civ Comm members starting the electronic DBS process. My WHQ has said they don’t have the IT capacity to do it so have told us to send paper DBS’s as normal.
?? As in they don’t have the internet??
No. It’s more that the website wont work on their MODNET computers.
What a joke
Wonder how everyone else is managing ok? Our wing has been doing them
It’s probably more they don’t know how to work the website…
I think you might be right!
Only in the RAFAC could the introduction of an electronic system cause more paperwork, I.e OCs now have to scan all id write declaration for each CivComm eDBS either the desk dwellers think OCs have nothing else to do or Wings want to retain control. How about trust OCs!
huh? I thought all they had to do was check them, make sure they’re real, nothing else?
I’ve seen this email
No email from our whq, OCs to email a declaration (set wording) and scanned/photo of the 3 IDs. Wouldnt be surprised if its just our wing
